(21,048 posts)It stinks for those who opposed Trump and opposed Brexit, but the voters had their say (although there are rightfully questions about the voting process). But there's no turning back on Brexit and no turning back on Trump, so until a new government is in place and can reverse course or make major adjustments, serious consequences will be realized.

(12,618 posts)Remember that Trump did not get a majority of votes. He's an undemocratically elected leader.

(6,962 posts)Less popular vote. Check.
But...as you well know, our democratic process are based on the electoral college. Im not a fan but we consider 271ev as the win.
Downtown Hound
(12,618 posts)But if somebody with less votes wins then it is inherently undemocratic.
North Korea call themselves the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. I don't think anybody's really buying that one.

(23,087 posts)by popular vote. And if Hillary had won in the same way as Trump did you wouldn't hear a peep here about him winning the popular vote.
Downtown Hound
(12,618 posts)Yes, I am aware of how our system works. And it is not democratic. Have a nice day.

(12,618 posts)it. But that has way more to do with the fact that the Repukes have now won that way twice so turnabout is fair play. It wouldn't be because I think that the electoral college is a good or democratic thing.

On another note, Im a fan of Great British Menu and it was wonderful seeing so many top chefs in the UK bring more positive attention to the contributions made by the Windrush generation during their tribute to the NHS season.

What was done will never be forgiven. What's interesting is that Brexit means they now need more economic ties with us so the fake apology had to come.

(791 posts)The cretins are all waiting to for the vote on the bill first, if it doesn't pass then it's going to get messy. As you said in another post, not many options left for poor Theresa.

(20,673 posts)We should be clear, May was ALWAYS in trouble ! She's only in the position because those cowards (Johnson, Davies, Gove etc) didn't want to be the one going down in history as having "delivered" Brexit. May doesn't have a long term future as PM....push is coming to shove.
Also, the Brexit deal she agreed to, just allows the UK to trade under the EU umbrella, until they get their shit together (which could be years). During that time, they will have given up their MEPs, any EU Commissioners and probably representation at Prime Ministerial level meetings.
The plan put out by Downing Street, basically gives her 3 attempts at trying to get this through. If she fails at that point, then she either resigns, calls a General Election or goes to a Referendum (I think there may well be two, as there are three options).
