(58,785 posts)not convicted. He'll spend the trial period conspiring with his own party and with Putin to exchange reelection for destruction of the U.S.'s ability to protect ourselves, much less the 2 dozen former Soviet nations Putin intends to invade and take over. And after the trial, Trump'll be extremely vengeful -- against all the Americans who crossed and/or failed him, as I believe he has been all along.
The Repubs are in trouble, but we need more for McConnell et al to toss him off their lifeboat.

(2,795 posts)I know you meant this facetiously. But that sentence lays out very clearly what a pack of cowardly treason-enablers (if not practitioners) the Republicans are, to a man and woman.
I honestly believe that if McConnell and Graham and Nunes and the idiot from Ohio (Jordan) were at a dinner where Trump was eating rotisserie babies they would still smile and call him "sir" when they addressed him.

This should be the end, but I'll believe it, when I see it.

(16,167 posts)reason to believe that they cannot just create and sell a rendition of truth that buttresses their current grasp on power; they've been able to do that so many times during the course of this administration already , not to mention before -- Iran/Contra and the Iraq invasion for example.

(12,952 posts)In a soundbite on TV that if Warren is elected that "it " will be over.
Wonder what he meant?
Democracy will be over
Or
The republicans and billionaires will never be able to abuse, plunder and destroy democracy and human empathy on such a scale they've gotten away with anymore.

(17,549 posts)While he repeatedly said he assumed the directives came from trump, he never actually heard trump say to tie aid or meetings to the investigation.
As cohen and vindeman pointed out, trump doesn't talk that way. He talks like a mob boss on an open line - in code.
But sondland did leave a barn door open for the gop to claim it was all rudy. rudy should stay off of icy roofs and not try to clean the windows on the outside of his 50th floor apartment.

(15,522 posts)That is a right-wing talking point I've already heard at least one talking head try. He clearly stated that Trump told him to talk to Rudy.

Sondlands firewall against being attacked by Trump is his claim that Trump never told him directly about holding military assistance.

(24,912 posts)but was cagier about the aid being a direct order from Trump. I heard him refuse several times to say he had ever heard that Trump ordered that, but instead said it was an impression he got.

(24,735 posts)WH meeting and military aid were conditioned on a public statement by President Zelensky that the Bidens and 2016 election would be investigated, he made it abundantly clear that everyone knew that's what Tump wanted. As Cohen testified, Trump never says directly that he wants people to commit crimes, but they always know what he means.

(11,767 posts)He had three options once he started testifying:
1. Take the fall.
2. Throw Trump under the bus.
3. Pin it on Giuliani.
Sondland thought he was getting a lucrative deal for buying his ambassadorship. He thought he was going to get dividends for his hotel chain. He dove straight into the swamp and ended up full of leeches.
Giuliani will likely not take the fall here. If the House can compel him to testify, I am sure he will yield fruit.

(11,885 posts)Only proves he knew it was illegal , and why he's obstructed, and tried to cover it up, and lied about it over and over again. He conspired doing this too. His propaganda and attacks now all coming home to show he's a career criminal. He's done this before, and I suspect it'll be uncover eventually too. His tells are giving himself away . The hoax was trump acting like he was innocent, and accusing others of guilt. Huge numbers of republicans will be running from their party and trump now.
