But if my husband or I get a check it will go to some long time friends who very much need every penny - my husband already pays their Medicare co-pays, makes sure they get to any doctor's appointments, and helps them buy heating fuel and food.

(11,885 posts)Its my money and don't want it to go again to the wealthy, because we're going to have to pay for it anyway , we might as well be the ones getting it. Also giving it directly to us it will stimulate the economy, and trump can claim he saved us when he was using it as a bribe for votes. So if its little it'll really hurt any chances of getting re-elected, but if it pretty good he'll get some people's votes. Never mine. Yeah I know a number of people desperately needing it, some elderly ones.

My brothers are both more than self sufficient. Ill probably use our checks (if they ever arrive) for our kids that arent getting paychecks from their universities any longer.

(95,574 posts)You know he recommends an automatic life-stipend for all adults, an allowance if you will. I have not yet read his book, but my husband has, with great appreciation. What I have to say is in the sphere of common knowledge, and things I learned at DU.
My husband and I are in our 70s and comfortably off, having worked our way up from blue-collar public-school childhoods in aspirational families. Our kids are not well off. They inherited a broken system -- not our fault and certainly not theirs. There is more scrambling going on than we knew. The fact that we are okay and don't need the money being talked about doesn't mean they don't.
You DUers know all know that most people in this country are one paycheck away from disaster. It's that bad. In fact, over the years we've gotten to know DUers who are just scraping by in their own lives. Other DUers are well off to various degrees -- all good Dems.
Back when Dubya got rid of the budget surplus left to him by Bill Clinton, things were sunnier. I took the money sent to us by Dubya and split it between Planned Parenthood and a local group dedicated to liberal causes.
Now? I'd split it between my adult kids, and hope.
As it is, I am wondering what to do about the cleaning ladies who come into my house every two weeks. They work hard for the money & I appreciate what they do. They are also in the category of workers in America with little or no safety net. I've decided I really need to lay them off for at least a month -- and I've decided to give them half-pay instead of no pay. I hope that's right.

(2,949 posts)as I am thinking, even if some do not need it, I would feel more comfortable with average sane minded individuals having control over that thousand or so to distribute to who they feel needs it in their community. rather than DC deciding.

(8,514 posts)I'm thinking that I probably won't be getting full rent from at least one tenant, and that's going to hurt. Honestly, if she gets $1000, it won't go very far. I think she's still working, but that'll probably end soon.

(10,935 posts)minimum wage and asked for a month off payroll no pay. I am at 60 and compromised immunity in customer service dealing with lots of bodies. It will be a loss. I already do not or barely make enough to cover monthly expense. I know a lot of people in my situation. A thousand matters. It will almost cover my monthly pay. 300-400 shy but that loss is a lot less for someone like me than 1500.

(6,275 posts)...assuming it really happens.
- The churches will take care of their own.
- I don't want to give to charities with highly paid administrators. They have enough.
- Don't want the needy to have to jump through a lot of hoops to get it.
- I probably don't personally know the neediest service workers in my community who will need it most
Getting lots of good ideas from you guys. Keep em coming.

(60,969 posts)I don't "need" it in the sense I won't go under if I don't get it. I do have some serious debt that I would love to pay down and improve my cash flow position a bit, so it would help out a lot.
Right now I'm hand to mouth, but as I'm on SS and it won't be affected (hopefully) I won't lose my roof or starve if I don't get this.
I will happily donate a chunk of it to a local charity/food bank/shelter if it comes in.
