(73,132 posts)a stuffy, drippy nose that veers into sinus infections, and a frequent sore throat. Im assuming, this being Maine, that my odds of getting Covid are lower than in a large metropolis, but since I work in a school, have a kid home from our states largest campus, have a hubby who continues to make house calls, and have been out for groceries and to the doctor that I should keep an eye on things.

(460 posts)I work in a private practice had all my normal allergy stuff starting runny nose and a headache, also had a dry nagging cough for 1 week. Our office is very strict now which I am thankful for and said eventhough you don't have a fever don't come in. Somehow they managed to get their hands on some tests and tested me though out in the parking lot. It took exactly 1 week to the day to get result back btw. Testing Tuesday morning had to stay home until results came back the following Tuesday morning.

(1,944 posts)A visitor to our home (Colorado) January 17 - 19 had all the symptoms except it never developed into pneumonia. She (female mid 40s) had a fever for about 48 hours, felt sick, very fatigued, weak, had a horrible dry chest based cough, said she felt/heard a crackling sound in her chest when she took a breath; no runny nose. She had been at a conference in Denver attended by people from all over the world and had been in airplanes and airports a week before arriving at our house. After two days, with rest and some herb tea, she improved enough to travel home to Maine.
About 3 days after she left my wife an I (in our 70s) both developed some flu/cold like symptoms. It was obvious we had been exposed so we had started taking immune support supplements before our visitor left. I had a mild soar throat, a mild headache, fatigue for about a week. My wife had a lot of fatigue and was in bed for most of two days.
We took elderberry extract, triple doses of vitamins A&D, a probiotic, drank lots of water and herb tea. I sprayed my nose and throat with a nasal spray containing grapefruit seed extract (which is anti-microbial). I also used a homeopathic anti-cold/flu medicine. I take/need no pharmaceutical chemicals and have no ill-health "conditions" -- because I make a serious effort to be healthy and have done so for years. I suggest that vitamin D with support from the other health products and a healthy lifestyle is a bit of a wonder drug. Except for the healthy lifestyle advice, we never hear about any of this from the so-called health care community, which is really a disease management industry serving the pharmaceutical companies.

I dont believe our bodies make any other vitamin, so that is enough for me to think it might be a little important

(7,220 posts)Eating a healthy diet, including immunity-boosting foods, herbs and spices. Exercise and lung-strengthening activities.
We USED to have a first lady who emphasized the importance of food as medicine. She was ridiculed by the right, and much worse. Now we have a useless boob with an inane "cause" that seems intended to rub her husband's cyber-bullying in our faces.
It's up to us to keep ourselves as healthy as possible, and that means eating as much healthy food as we can. (I realize not everyone can do this, but it bears repeating anyway. This is the worst time to be consuming junk food, especially those most at risk.)
If anyone's wondering "what can I do to help?" consider it a patriotic duty to eat as healthy possible.

He's better now, but during that time he lost sense of smell and taste, so we figure he had it.
Thankfully he stayed away from me and others.

Had a co-worker who sits (moderate distance) next to me at the office get sick but later tested positive for Flu. Was really worried though because his husband had just been in China around January/February. His husband smartly voluntarily self-isolated immediately when he got back.

(139 posts)My daughter was swabbed yesterday. The other nurse went on a cruise in Feb and subsequent to that went to Colorado (another hot spot) and then came home and went to work within days. She was asymptomatic but exposed everyone on her floor to include patients!

I check for fever daily because I've gotten paranoid... kinda like discovering fleas on your dog suddenly makes you itch.

(2,185 posts)Been running a temperature between 99 and 100 for four days. Stuffy nose and fatigue, too. Called doctor yesterday. Said he didn't think it was serious, but if fever gets worse or difficulty breathing to go to the ER. He started me on Tamiflu 2X/day for 5 days. Took my flu shot back in October. Hoping for the best.

(9,630 posts)self-quarantined and now they are gone, thankfully. My healthcare system's nurse told me I would not be tested unless I developed severe breathing problems in which case I should go to the ER. I only had a slight sore throat, swollen glands, maybe a day or so of low-grade fever, and feel fine now so could've been something else.
The person I interviewed on election night remains in the hospital on a ventilator, unfortunately.

(12,936 posts)So I have no idea if I had the covid-19 virus I hope to find out some day. I had a fever for 5 days (as high as 102 at one point) and a dry cough, which isnt entirely gone yet.

(1,343 posts)I've been using one for many years.
About two months ago the owner of my hair salon had a wicked flu -- intense fatigue, fever for a day or two. She had never experienced anything like it but doc said it was this year's version of influenza.
Now her salon is closed for the duration, as are all non-essential businesses here. And my wristwatch stopped yesterday but nowhere to get it fixed. Talk about timeless!!!

(2,258 posts)Tuesday night I started feeling poorly, with some minor chest "heaviness" (I won't say it was difficult to breathe, but my chest felt "heavy" , and a very minor dry cough. By Wednesday morning, it had evolved into a fever (highest was 98.7 vs my normal of low 97s), but the other symptoms were still minor. I contacted my dr's office, and they said I did not yet reach the level where testing is warranted, but to call if the symptoms got worse (notably if my temp got over 100). Thankfully I feel a lot better today, with no fever and the remaining symptoms easily falling into the "could be allergies" category.

(6,511 posts)three docs and no test. Worse lung involvement started last week. I have been resting and doing what I can. One of my docs did bw last week and wbc is good so he thinks it is not covid. He said if I have an emergency for what he treats me for he can treat it without going to hospital.
There is a drive through test near us but by appt only. To be honest I am going to weather this out for now, I think I am feeling a bit better today. I could easily have another emergency and I would be scared to go to the hospital with everything going on. Most doctors are closed now. I am terrified of what things will look like in two weeks. I or my father can easily end up at the er without covid at any time. I wish we were in Canada right now. A lot of people are going to die because of dumpster, not only covid related.
Someone needs to make a cheap at home test that is fast. Available to anyone without rx etc. Then you order it online and test yourself etc.
I am just staying inside and hoping for the best. The weather has been terrible here for lung stuff, I was going for walks before I got worse and I think they made me worse.
My county is up to 2735 pos tests and 20 deaths.

(19,240 posts)I have never had anything like this. Cough nonstop. My chest and abdomen muscles ache! Sometimes I run out of strength to cough. Doing nebulizer treatments at home every 2 hours to keep my oxygen above 95 and then spend 10 minutes in the bathroom hacking up crap and gargling it out. Can not eat anything solid or I choke which sets off another round of coughing so bad I feel that I am going to die. Spent 15 minutes over a toilet attempting to cough up the tiny pieces of noodle that got caught in my right bronchus. Felt like I was trying to bring up a hair ball. Now I am only doing liquids. The family had crawfish ettoufee and collards tonight. I had collard broth and the liquid from the ettoufee.
No sense of smell. Opened a Mexican Coke and all I tasted was sugar water. Cant smell the wisteria in full bloom. Cant sleep due to the cough. Sometimes it feels as if there a hedgehog or cockle burrs in my airway trying to drive me crazy.
Cant talk without coughing.
My throat and upper airways feel like someone has slathered them in menthol flavored Vaseline.
And I make this creepy whistling sound from my left bronchus when I cough as if it is half the diameter it is supposed to be.
I do not smoke I have excellent health and no underlying lung disease. My elderly patients with weak lungs and hearts and neurological issues are toast if they get this no matter what it is.
And I am only at day five. I hear the really bad complications may not set in until day 8 or later. My family cringes every time they hear me go into one of my face turning blue coughing spells. I have seen pertussis patients who did not cough this much. And then I hear that there may be new mutations showing up in Brazil and I think I may have to do this again?

(4,636 posts)That's a medical condition status question, and your poll reveals who voted which way.
Am I the only person who thinks that it is an improper question to link test status with to names?
What if this question asked HIV status instead of Covid-19 testing status? Would you feel the same way disclosing?

(6,935 posts)I am not symptomatic, and I went to the doctor right after this started because of one mild symptom that was determined not to be anything. We in this house also just finished a two week voluntary quarantine because one roommate went to London and returned right as they announced the travel restrictions there. He has nothing and neither do myself nor my beloved. Stay safe everyone!

(47,489 posts)The government here is fucked (Sweden) They have stopped all comprehensive testing, and even if you have symptoms, they only test if you fall into a high risk category.
Do NOT believe the Swedish numbers. They are cooked. We have the worst response in the entire EU, and most of the schools under high school level are still open, and they have only banned crowds of 50 (until 2 days ago it was 500!!!) or more, plus no mandatory closure of bars and restos (you just have to have table service in them, which is fucking stupid).

(2,223 posts)Hubby, my son and myself all had chest pain while breathing, which lasted less than a day, lingering dry coughs and very slight fevers, also sneezing. Could be a cold, but weve been inside for three weeks, only going out to shop (only me) and I purell, wipe down the cart and every thing I touch with a Clorox wipe, so catching something is really strange (even if just a cold). I guess someday well all be tested and will find out.
