(46,436 posts)but considering that Alaska hasn't voted for a democratic president since LBJ, I would say that it's leaning Romney. He did get only 5,000 votes in their caucus, however. Not real popular.

(187,987 posts)from some in-the-campaign info that I got this weekend.
I made 50 phone calls tonight for Tim Kaine - I got one undecided and probably another.

(9,314 posts)southwestern Virginia there doesn't seem to be much support for Romney. What worries me is the re-districting the Republicans did. Lots of elderly and poor had their polling places moved much further from their residence.

(34,206 posts)McCain took GA by 5% in 2008.
I think Obama did the math and decided his time and energy are best spent elsewhere because there are just a few campaign ads that I've seen.
When I spent a weekend in VA, there were ads constantly airing.

(49,212 posts)I suspect they could overlook Romney's religion and his waffling on choice but not both. The Ryan pick was a bit tin-eared- a fundie Protestant might have brought some back into the fold, but a Catholic won't.

(6,319 posts)We've got a Blue Dog (Joe Donnelly) up against teabagger Richard Mourdock, whose campaign is all over the place. He knocked out Lugar by pledging no compromise (famously defining his version of "bipartisanship" as forcing Democrats to go along with Republican proposals), and is now running ads asserting that he's just the guy to "reach across the aisle" and get things done. They were neck and neck in the polls.

(6,319 posts)but the last time Indiana voted for the Democrat twice in a row it was FDR - and just for his second term; he lost the state the next 2 times. Since then only Obama and LBJ have carried the state!
Drunken Irishman
(34,857 posts)But in the end he did due to very high turnout in the region around Chicago and, of course, Indianapolis. I don't anticipate that to happen again, but it'd be nice...

jberryhill
(62,444 posts)But I'll tell you... Except for a four month stint in Logan, I've lived my whole life on the east coast.
There are a lot of good reasons to get out of SLC, and I can fully appreciate the reasons not to, but the Logan Canyon is a real gem.
I had a friend take me out to Paul Bunyan's woodpile one time.
You just can't see stuff like that where I grew up.
