Ernst admits there should be hearings and a vote for a SCOTUS justice if (God forbid) RBG were to die...even during the lame duck session.
This right here proves that the winning the Senate and controlling the SCOTUS nominee hearings are just as important, if not more, than the winning POTUS.
Ernst must lose!!! This would rip the country to pieces. The political death match would be unprecedented and shes all for it.

I don't think I need to say that Theresa Greenfield is a solid Democrat. She needs our support. Right now polls have this race about dead even.

(47,500 posts)theory (assuming fat fuck orange loses and vacates) say January 13th) AND they ram in another RWNJ SCOTUS justice, then we HAVE to pack the Court, have to, zero choice. It is that (especially if orange fuck fat steals another term) or civil within a few years. The union will not hold together if they go full Gilead.

(2,397 posts)Even if there were an opening before the election there shouldnt be any hearings! If Trump puts a right wing judge on the SCOTUS between now and January, then Dems need to abolish the filibuster, expand the court, bring in PR and DC as states, and go full FDR in terms of legislation.

The constitution is close to, if not fully fatally flawed when viewed at with a truly long wave (as in the sweep of 2 centuries en toto, but especially the last 60 years) view of history. I detest non proportional representation (I live in a PR system, like almsot all the rest of the advance world), as the first past the post, single member district, majoritarian voting system in the US is SHIT.
The Senate and the electoral college are ticking time bombs, with the EC already blowing up and putting the nation (and world) in mortal danger. As for the Senate, by 2030-35 or so, 70% of the seats in the Senate will be controlled by 30% of the population, and that 30% is far more white, conservative (reactionary) fundie xian, far more rural, poorer, older, and less educated on average than the other 70%, who will be stuck with only 30 of the 100 seats soon.
The best way to sort things is simple to describe, but hard to do, because people will not do it. Move several million excess Democrats out (from the DEEP Blue huge states) into the giant pinkish/purple states (TX, FL, GA for sure) and turn them perma-Blue. Also shore up the light Blue and smaller pinkish states as well to claw back the Senate in a BIG way. Have Dem-friendly billionaires help plan and help execute the migrations, and help by moving jobs and infrastructure to lure and then support the Dem transplantation.

(1,206 posts)because Ginsburg is on her way out and Biden would install a Left-wing radical judge in her place who would make everyone have an abortion (or two), take everyone's guns and have MS-13 gang members as their clerks.
As gross as he will get about it (and he will), there are some folks out there who would indeed vote for him if for no other reason than to put yet another Federalist Society pick on the court.
It will soon become a campaign issue, as he simply has absolutely nothing to run on.

(8,629 posts)that since Mitch McConnell violated his oath to the Constitution and unethically denied a sitting president his Supreme Court nomination, we have NO CHOICE but to expand the court. And then we should do it.
