Personally I am angry because 43 Republicans condoned a subversion of democracy itself.

(12,869 posts)We laid down a marker for history
We set a predicate for a criminal indictment
We did not burn Joe's first 100 days
We were never going to get a conviction
More will come out. They are branded with that vote to acquit.
Pretty Good.

(24,076 posts)gratified that the American public got to see the devastating preponderance of evidence showing that Lard Butt is a fucking criminal, and that most Republicans are gutless weasels interested in nothing beyond their own self-interest.

(4,086 posts)Even though we knew it coming, the feelings of disgust and hopelessness are still very strong. I feel its only a matter of time before the fascists win.

(2,234 posts)even though, intellectually, I knew this would be the outcome. You see, my career, my health, and my life were destroyed after working with a female version of 45 for a year and a half. I have raging complex PTSD which has been working overtime since November 2016. Most days I can beat it back, and tomorrow Ill probably do just that. But tonight, Ill sit here and rage at how the evil people always fucking win.

(7,281 posts)We all knew the GOP was too corrupt to convict Trump, & even if they did what would the consequences be for him?
1. Removal from office. - He's already out of office so that means nothing, big deal.
2. Bar from future office. - This definitely has significance for me, but honestly I don't think he will ever run for office again. Look at his fragile ego & how much it hurts him to be criticized. He doesn't like being in a position where he's criticized from all sides, he'd much rather be in an environment where everyone is praising him & stroking his ego (like at his rallies). He can have that now, he can surround himself with ego-strokers, & he can milk his cult for every dollar they have (folks seem to forget that's been a consistent theme of his entire business career). I see him being much more comfortable in that situation, so I really don't expect him to run again. So, if he doesn't run, then barring him from office also, in all practical terms, means nothing.
I'm "Determined" because I feel like now that we've gotten this impeachment stuff out of the way, we can move on to REAL trials, criminal trials (not political processes like impeachment) where evidence matters & witness testimony matters & where there are REAL penalties, not just slaps on the wrist.
So, LET'S GO!!! It's time for some REAL justice.

(26,155 posts)The impeachment trial may be over, but we haven't seen all of the fallout from Jan 6. I think there's much more to this that will be uncovered and publicly dealt with by a commission or in future hearings.

(16,023 posts)Because after today's vote, the Retrumplican Party is going to own every act of criminality and corruption that comes out of the Donnie Dipshit misadminstration.
There's going to be shit that comes out that will make a shithouse rat recoil in horror.
Extortion, National Security Violations, Bribery, Malfeasence, Theft, Corrupt Kickbacks...the list just goes on and on.
Fifty years from now, things are still going to be coming out that would knock a fly off a shitwagon.
The Retrumplicans could have just yanked that band-aid off now. Instead, they've tied themselves to this albatross for all time.
