I live in New York, and consider myself darn lucky. Because unlike in so many other states, such as South Carolina, South Dakota, Florida, yadda-yadda, my governor has tried really hard to care for his constituents during these Plague Times. Taking on Trump!, providing easily accessible safety nets, enforcing mask/social distancing protocols, looking out for the black and brown community, and briefing the public daily. Granted, Andrew is not a perfect human. And yes, he can get "gang-sta". But that's all part of being a New Yaww-kah, n'est-ce pas? Seriously, after seeing tears well in his eyes day after day, I remain convinced that he really cares about people.
That being said, horrific as it would be if the nursing home mismanagement allegations are proven, I always fail to understand the need for Dems to self-righteously go after Dems, tooth and nail. This, friends, is how we ended up losing our amazing liberal senator, Al Franken, and our majority at the time. At the moment our majority hangs by a thread.
Further, in my estimation, the simultaneous bloodlust for ousting NY and CA governors -- by both dems and repugs, are not coincidental.
Although I have great respect for AOC, I fear that her firebrand ways could become somewhat wearing on the public. I hope that Alexandria's lifestyle/political record will remain ABSOLUTELY and COMPLETELY squeaky-clean. Without a blemish, so that she is able to attain her goals.
In closing, as some quarters are chompin' at the bit for an AOC/DiBlasio primary, keep in mind that the extremely charismatic, super-friendly and wildly popular, albeit pro-life conservative republican Dutchess County executive, will most likely re-challenge Cuomo next time around. Stone me to death, folks, but these days I would rather have a little less righteousness, and more looking at the bigger picture...

(3,396 posts)The governor should have never threaten to destroy a fellow-Dem's career for daring to tell the truth.

(5,688 posts)Cuomo with DeSantis those in Iowa, North Dakota or Texas. He's done a good job during this pandemic. OK, he's arrogant and demanding, but he's getting crucified because numbers were wrong or even fudged. Not great, but in perilous times, not that important. New Yorkers can decide on election day, not vilified in the press.

(15,325 posts)Truthful & honest.
I agree completely.
After 4 years of seeing where the campaign to burn it all down got the US, I'd be holding dearly to what is solid & steady at this point.
No one's laughing at America, 4 yrs after Trump, but Putin.
Well and...

(3,191 posts)And I made no reference to it in my post, so what are you talking about? Don't bother replying, I do not wish to see you again. Bye.

(15,325 posts)Perhaps you misinterpreted my post.
I referred to the instability of 4 years after Trump, & preferring a stable leadership, with experience in repairing the enormous damage to America. ( re: Half a million dead from Covid)
Some think it's funny. I find the response appalling.
I have no idea what your post to me referred to.
Maybe take a break & reply later if there's a misunderstanding.
I'll be willing to discuss this subject later.
Enjoy your evening.

(2,868 posts)The Cuomo administration did NOT undercount or underreport the total deaths from Covid, as DeSantis clearly DID. Some deaths were logged as happening in the hospital instead of being classified to a nursing home.
In the midst of thousands dying daily nationally, the RightWing may try, but those facts will be tough to make into a scandal.

(12,694 posts)This sounds more like a reporting error rather than a deliberate attempt to hide or misrepresent the numbers. With the crisis that unfolded last year mistakes were bound to happen. He's not perfect. I do think he could've handled some things better and he should check his temper going forward. He deserves some criticism but not to be crucified over it. Other governors did much worse.
By the way, welcome to DU

(3,974 posts)because of Franken. That was lost in 2010, 7 years before Franken resigned. He was replaced by Tina Smith, a democrat who won re-election.

(18,217 posts)He clearly made some mistakes and suboptimal choices. That being said, my RWNJ governors response was basically completely inert. No mask mandates, no restrictions on restaurants and bars. Basically a non response that got a lot of people killed. At one point he publicly touted a day of fasting and prayer.
So Cuomo looks better to me than my governor does in comparison because doing nothing is worse to me than what has been reported about aspects of Cuomos response.

(3,814 posts)and a terrible mayor who should stay out of the kitchen if he can't take the heat.
The entire nursing home 'scandal' is a conspiracy theory cooked up by the far-right on social media, and some on the left have jumped on it in attempt to weaken Cuomo in the 2022 gubernatorial primary.
However, these people don't understand NY politics. NY is liberal but not leftist, and is accustomed to tough politics as long as results are delivered. Cuomo has the state in very good shape considering the conditions; he had to deal not only with a terrible pandemic but with the Trump admin that was out to sabotage him and the attention and praise he received.
As long as the vaccine rollout goes well and herd immunity is achieved by next spring, Cuomo will be easily reelected.

(3,974 posts)Her name is Letitia James. She is New York's first African-American Attorney General. She is a Democrat who was elected in 18.
Previously she served as New York City Public Advocate and on the NYC City Council.
Her office is currently investigating Trump as well as Facebook for anti-trust violations and suing to dissolve the National Rifle Association.
It was her office that issued the report on Gov. Cuomo that showed nursing home covid deaths had been misreported.
She is not a right wing stooge doing a republican hit job on Cuomo. She is a good progressive Democrat doing her job for the people of New York State.
If we have the same knee jerk reaction to defend democrats when they are legitimately criticized for mistakes, then we are no better than republicans who do the same.
