Like most people, I have three sides, my fun positive side, my cynical inquisitive side, and the side that I dont show anyone if I can help it. Given the third side, I cant help but smile grimly to myself when I see unvaccinated people suffering. I know, I know, this is terrible. It is inhumane, not altruistic, and downright immoral. But I cant help myself, because their rebelliousness, if you want to call it that, is causing the rest of us to suffer immeasurably. I know that it is not right, it is against medical ethics, but if I were in charge I would state that if you present to my hospital unvaccinated with Covid, and we are full up, you gotta wait until we have some room, if ever. I know, again, this is disgusting thought, and Im not in charge, so it doesnt matter what I think, but if there is any group that has brought it upon itself in history, it is this group. I grieve for those whom they have caused to have misery in their lives: the under age, the immunocompromise, and others who cannot be vaccinated for legitimate reasons. Also, and I have not forgotten, those for whom the vaccine simply was not efficacious. Those are the people for whom I feel truly sorry and genuinely weep.
And Im going to tell you why: for 6 days a week for months, I risked my life treating patients who may or may not be positive for the virus, because it is my job number one, number two I had to go to work to survive. Yes I took precautions, but thats all bullshit when youre seeing the number of people that I have. Youre bound to make a mistake, and quite frankly statistically I am amazed that I did not get sick. Everything I do aerosolizes the virus and the room is literally covered in viral particles. I have four underlying medical issues which could cause me to die if I had been infected and to these bastards who refuse vaccine and threaten lives I say Fuck You.

(8,200 posts)People who fail to be fully vaccinated should have to shoulder the cost of their treatment. Their premiums for health insurance should also be increased since their negligence results in the overall increase in insurance. I do not have an ounce of sympathy for those who get sick and may even die due to their own refusal to be vaccinated. I have nothing but contempt for these fools.

(514 posts)They should also be assessed a share in a compensatory damages fund for the vaccinated folks whose care is denied or delayed due to hospital overburdening from COVID-19. It won't fix this, but it would help move the financial pain where it belongs.

(123,868 posts)is against Covid mitigation. This teaches hatred of those who are irresponsible. It is the basis of libertarianism to make people wholly responsible for their lot in life so that society has no responsibility to those who have poor options when they start out in life. I worry it is the slippery slope they most like about Covid: the chance to social engineering liberals. They never let a 'good crisis' go to waste. I agree the great unvaxxed and unmasked are killing innocents by taking up beds and spreading more disease. Maybe the Singapore idea of not paying for hospital stays of the unvaxxed if they get Covid-19 should be threatened (but not implemented). Vaccine passports work too. They get people to get the jab if they can't go out to a restaurant when things calm down.

(36,186 posts)All the libertarians in this country walk through life taking no responsibility for anything. They are total complete assholes and they have no empathy for any Americans who got the short end of the stick. Until it affects THEM and suddenly we have to drop everything and take care of THEM, because they are the only people who matter.
I'm so sick of libertarians... let's put them all on a boat and send them to Antarctica.

(3,814 posts)They don't care about the greater good until something happens to them personally, then they are at the front of the line.
There are no libertarians in a emergency. People cry out for help and expect institutions to help them.
Libertarians are solipsistic parasites.
The only way to combat this ideology is for there to be consequences for such selfish behavior. Right now the cost of their behavior is externalized to society, and as long as they are not accountable then the libertarian way is beneficial.

(213 posts)I am sorry that you and your coworkers have to deal with this. I find it unimaginable.
It is one thing to take risks with your own life, but anyone who has chosen not to get vaccinated at this point is risking the lives of others and providing a Petri dish for the virus to mutate. This may not be an actual crime, but it is certainly a moral crime.
I probably first saw this statistic at DU, but an estimated 140,000 children in the USA have been orphaned by Covid. That put us at #4 worldwide for countries with orphaned children. Between March 2020 and April 2021, 1,135,000 children world-wide experienced the death of a primary caregiver.
In so many ways, Homo sapiens are proving just too stupid to live.

(441 posts)While fantasizing about kicking the unvaccinated out of the hospital does give one some guilty pleasure it really can't and shouldn't be done.
However, there is absolutely nothing wrong and indeed everything right about making them pay a premium on their health insurance much as smokers do. They made a choice that increases the chance that they will need expensive scarce resources and they need to pay for that decision.

(2,403 posts)When you have a loved one that dies in the waiting room because there isnt a bed that tune may change. And that has happened to people. On a lesser scale there are people suffering waiting on Non-emergency care because lack of bed and staff. That shit needs to stop. Somehow. Why should they take precedence over others when they put themselves in this situation?

(84,810 posts)Or, just know youre nowhere near alone in that reaction. I feel the EXACT same way.
Look, theyve HAD the facts. Theyve HAD the repeated advisories and interviews with Dr. Fauci and other independently and objectively credible experts. Theyve certainly seen enough news about it. And they now have the repeated urging of a legitimately credible President NOT world-famous for lying his ass off as often as the rest of us breathe!
And if they still wanna believe the bullshit, its ON THEM. And, with all due respect, FUCK EM! If they get sick, or worse, because they refused to get vaccinated despite a WORLD of evidence supporting the wisdom and common sense (and simple common courtesy toward others) of getting vaccinated, then FUCK EM. Let em reap the whirlwind.
The rest of us are better off without em (and probably safer, health-wise!).

That would free up the medical system for folks that follow the science.

(2,468 posts)I've wondered WHY the unvaxxed even go to hospitals, if what they want is ivermectin. Let them have separate care, as you said - well put. Then the medical staff in the real hospitals would not suffer their abuse, and the wrath of their family members.

I had myocarditis and could not breath, and peed myself, and had to control my breaths, or die, then and there. Over and over. Unfortunately, I know PRECISELY how they die. And cannot bring myself to smirk or anything but show disdain.

(3,324 posts)I'm going to the dentist tomorrow for a routine cleaning. My appointment was originally scheduled for a few weeks ago, but I woke up that morning with a sore throat (no other symptoms) and called to cancel the appointment out of an abundance of caution to avoid potentially exposing the people at the dentist's office.
What blew my mind was that the receptionist thanked me for cancelling at the last minute after I apologized for doing so. She told me that they've had several patients show up with obvious cold/flu symptoms and still expect to be seen. I was aghast at the idea that someone would be so selfish/thoughtless as to put others at risk rather than reschedule.
On balance, I suppose I shouldn't have been at all surprised, given how many people utterly refuse to take even the simplest steps to protect those around them. I guess I just don't understand that mindset, but then again, I matured past the age of five both physically and mentally. Clearly quite a few people were not so fortunate.
Stay safe!

(10,749 posts)Frankly, I marvel at people like you who have risked their lives to treat people during the pandemic. I'm thankful that people like you are out there and grateful that I'm in a different line of work.
It's unfortunate that we have to qualify the claim that we simply don't care whether the unvaccinated live or die. On the one hand, I just don't care. If they die, they die. No sympathy, no empathy, no nothing - for them, their families, etc. Unfortunately, we have to qualify that attitude with the reality that they are affecting (infecting?) others who are trying to stay alive - friends, family co-workers, etc. who have been vaccinated and who do take precautions. It's more than unfortunate that the unvaccinated put others at risk. It's criminal. It's really not much different than people in recent years past who have deliberately infected people with AIDS or STDs. It may be tough to prove in court, but these people are IMHO guilt of criminal behavior (and that's putting aside their general assholeness).
What number of dead is acceptable to those dimwits? 800,000 seems okay (along with blaming Joe Biden). What happens when it reaches 1 million? 2 million? What happens when a family member can't be treated for other medical issues because their behavior is overloading the medical system? Is that okay? Is that a reasonable price to pay? What about when it begins to affect elections. Maybe 800,000 dead spread across the country won't have much of an electoral impact. What happens when that number climbs and the bulk of the deaths are in red communities? Can they sidestep the cult thinking and say enough is enough?

(11,532 posts)I had a conversation with a good friend of mine yesterday. Her cousin was fired because of her refusal to get vaccinated. My friend (who is vaxxed) was taking a sympathetic approach to her cousin's situation, said her office was small, that everyone had their own closed space with a door, that the boss wasn't very nice when he delivered the news, yada, yada.
I told her flat out I no longer have patience or sympathy for the anti-vaxx crowd and that personally I wouldn't want to work with anyone in the same situation. As far as the cousin being insulted by the boss's demeanor? How about being insulted by her cousin's defiance, about her refusal x millions of other refusals which has prolonged the restrictions we all encounter? I continued to vent until she quickly changed the subject. LOL.
My friend is a good soul who empathizes with everyone. But still. This has gone on too long for one simple reason:
People being ignorant, thoughtless and selfish.
Think the majority of Americans have had it with the stupid crowd.
