(7,209 posts)Ukraine hitting Russia back is a man bites dog headline and appears to be good news.
But actually this is the most dangerous days of the entire war. What will Putin do now that theres no hiding the military defeat from even the Russian people anymore?
In the man bites dog analogythis dog has rabies. Ukraine cant just go back to square one, Russia destroyed their home squares all over the country.

(7,209 posts)Its that single point of realization that is most dangerous. The moment Putin realizes he has destroyed himself, his country, his wealth, his world respect (?), and his peoples admiration.
When a dictator suddenly realizes his defeat is inevitable its either all-out war or he hides in an underground bunker. I trust Biden knows this, too, and the world depends on him at this moment to assemble his 60 years of experience to accomplish the seemingly impossible.
But attrition is certainly an effective weapon of war.

(19,539 posts)Russia's Thanksgiving and July 4th rolled into one, is a dangerous time. What will Putin do as the facade becomes thinner and more frayed? There's got to be chatter within the populace as more kids come home in boxes or simply disappear, left to rot on some battlefield. That's tough to control even in a totalitarian state. Particularly in the cities where Russians are far more familiar with the world beyond their borders than in the far flung villages.
Then again, every moment of this is dangerous in its own right.

(7,209 posts)If nothing more than a psychological deadline. If Putins plan is a May extravaganza, the moment he realizes that aint gonna happen is most dangerous. Now mind you, Im no war college graduate, just a student of human psychology.

(24,988 posts)Russian military doesn't seem to function well when they lose the ones at the top. (I don't suppose any military does, but Russia seems to be worse, with their lack of an NCO corps.)
Opinion of a man who knows nothing of military function....
