(18,517 posts)Florida has become more Red over the last 6 years or so. DeSantis is very high profile. The last very high profile Governor to lose was Mario Cuomo in 1994.

(18,882 posts)Polling is likely to be way off, if new registrations figures are accurate indicators of turnout.
But, the fundamentals are giving the GOP an edge, certainly in the house.

(112,959 posts)...to think that a Party that attempted a coup to overthrow our democracy may win the next election.
It does not bode well for the country.

It is full of creatures from nearby universes that are improbable in ours yet were somehow sensed by storytellers in the past: unicorns, wizards, elves, etc. He surrounds the garden in a powerful magnetic field to prevent the creatures from escaping because should any find their way into the outer world, other improbable things will occur: "we might elect a carnival barker as president, or make a chicken the pope," he warns. The Democrats taking both houses seems improbable yet this election comes on the heels of other improbable things: an insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, a tortured opinion reversing Roe V. Wade, Herschel Walker forming a complete sentence in a debate, etc. So I think that historical improbability can be ignored this time around, especially considering the Democrats are favored to take the Senate and those candidates have coattails and their issues have resonance down-ticket, so I suspect the House may follow.

(13,296 posts)And the winners will be determined by which party shows up the most. Thats how a democracy works. Sadly, it also means that we get the government we deserve if we dont pay attention.

(18,517 posts)It's horrendous, but 538 has our Senate chances at 57% now, and dropping fast. What changed it for me is that I no longer think PA is a win.
