(38,097 posts)Tom Cruise was kinda so-so in the films and the TV series with Alan Ritchson is close, but misses the mark, yet gets high marks for opening with Howling Wolf's Smokestack Lightning

(18,224 posts)I stopped in to my local Rainbow Grocery Food Co-op after work. They announced Drag Queen Story Hour. I stuck around for the show. Somehow, I made it out intact and undamaged.
I watched it through the eyes of my six-year-old grand-daughter Sofia, who's going through her own fierce Warrior Princess stage. All the kids loved it; I'd bring her here without reservation. I liked what the books had to say.
The first book was about color. It drew comparisons to how nature shares all its colors without restraint. It drew comparisons to the colors represented by humanity, and how we can share and enjoy them all without exception.
The next book was about bodies, and how all bodies are cool, without judgement or rejection.
My description is a bit dry, but the presentation was anything but. The person in the green floral gown is a ground-breaking and outspoken star of the local culture. She was at a table talking with people and presenting her book. They both teamed up to sing a Drag Queen song to the tune of The People on the Bus go Up and Down. It drew on the swishy hips and the big exaggerated characteristics employed by Drag Queens. It was both a self-parody and a celebration. "As we say in the Drag Queen world, Big is Big."
