(121,497 posts)You don't have to participate in DU if you don't like it, but maybe you could at least explain what it is that you don't like, and why? Or maybe spend some time getting used to and familiar with it? But nothing is keeping you here.
Think. Again.
(19,096 posts)...you could try the "Skinner Mode" option, maybe that would be more comfortable?

(93,485 posts)A few web sites revamping their look and format. A weather site I really liked has transformed to something I can't use anymore.
This format change at DU was not my favorite during the trials but now that some of the thing I didn't like have been addressed, I can live it and will probably be fine with it in a month or two.
Take some time and look through the tips and help pages that EarlG has posted with some guidance to find things and it won't be so bad in a few days.

(3,250 posts)I know that I wanted something that would let me know which posts I already read when I open a thread, but it says that the mark as read is for the forum, not a particular post.
I do remember a long long time ago that there was a feature on some message boards that change the color of the font when you clicked on an individual post. There is the " 5 latest" feature that kind of helps, but what if it's a very active thread and there are 20 posts that you haven't read?
Am I making sense here? I'm not known for my clarity in communication.

(11,474 posts)I think the visceral negative reaction is that I have two decades of DU habits burned into my brain.

TxGuitar
(4,282 posts)There was the same resistance to DU3, probably even more vociferous. A month from now nobody will remember what old DU looked like and will be loving the new features.
I say this as an old IT guy who has done (and is in the middle right now of) my share of user-resisted software upgrades. GUI upgrades are the worst to have to deal with. Good luck to the admins, it looks and works great.
Working at a university for 34 years I experienced many innovations and introductions to new tech. GREAT...BUT....The IT department was CONSTANTLY introducing "improvements" to various platforms and formats many of which made using the software more cumbersome. AND believe me after a month or even a year I DID NOT get used to some of the "improvements. IT guys get caught up in the wiz bang of some format that they understand but forget that their function is to serve the end user with tech that the end user can understand and easily use. IF IT AINT BROKEN, DONT FIX IT.
TxGuitar
(4,282 posts)Most improvements and upgrades are down to either compliance to new regulations (in banking, etc) or due to the software being out of support. Maybe because I've only worked in large companies, but my experience has been that upgrades involving changing the UI and/or the whole way a program works are implemented after a lot of testing involving super users in the user population, and the whole process takes from many months to a year or more. I'm currently working on such an upgrade that so far has lasted 4 years (migrating data took forever!) and is going live this year finally.
I guess it comes down to local IT dept policies!

Am I reading the situation correctly?
Tarzanrock
(490 posts)That's correct. Since Netscape was in vogue as the browser of choice. I've been reading the Washington Post and the NY Times even longer and never felt any compelling need to "donate" to them either -- monetarily nor materially. Feel free to "donate" to this site and maybe they'll correct the flaws and defects on this new format.
Enjoy the rest of your stay.

Changing over during mid day today was appropriate. When you have this many users testing your new system, you don't do it without knowing it's solid. Sure, a few bugs to be worked out, but the integration has been beaut!

(827 posts)I'm sorry, but this new layout is very wrong, difficult to navigate, difficult to read and is buggy as can be.
I have large colored "buttons" everywhere with no text. I have to hover to figure out what they are for.
None of the formerly easily available links is easily available and I don't feel like spending weeks trying to find something that used to be RIGHT THERE.
Sorry, ugh, hate it.

(3,359 posts)That should be fixed. I was hyper critical for this and the realized the css files were likely cached or still pointing to the old stylesheets.
