I'm taking delivery of a used ( Recycled ) 2010 Toyota Prius.
50 mpg on avarage.
As my moniker clearly states, I am a salesman who does a fair amount of windshield time. I am looking forward to passing by those gas stations even more than I did with my old Civic.
Anyone here have one? Love it? Hate it?
Just wondering....
Oh and by the way, I got a new job with life changing money after 4 plus years of suffering. So to answer the GOP pundants: Yes life is better under a Democrat.

(8,766 posts)and he absolutely loves it. It has a computer screen that tells you second by second what kind of mileage you're getting, and he loves trying to get the maximum mileage he can. He has had zero, I mean no complaints whatsoever.
So glad you've made these moves--job, transportation, finances. Best of luck to you, and happy holidays!

The guy who hired me was someone I hired years ago.
Karma?

(192 posts)Electric or hybrid. His reaction wasn't positive. Then this summer I talked him into test driving one with me and he was very impressed.
The only drawback for me was that I also wanted an American made vehicle. So now I'm also looking into the Ford hybrid.
But the Prius was very, very nice and quite reasonable as far as price.

(11,688 posts)My brother has a Fusion Hybrid and the fuel mileage isn't that much better than my Civic. That was my deciding factor.

(192 posts)Ford hybrid I'm looking at is the Cmax. The mileage on the Cmax is comparable to the prius. I haven't driven one yet as we are not in a big hurry. So I'm not sure that I'll like it as much as the Prius.
We are still in a holding pattern, taking my former car payment and paying off some credit card debt and I'd like to have that paid off before taking on another car note.

(10,283 posts)I'm loving it. If my gauge is correct, I'm getting around 52-53 mpg average. I went from a 2004 Honda Odyssey to the Prius - saving me well over 150.00 per month in gas. (and thereby making it worth it to get an almost new vehicle).
Occasionally I'll need more space, but only rarely. Maybe I'll get a very light-weight trailer?
And if anyone out there wants to really lower their carbon footprint, I have a line (a friend is a car dealer) on a couple of slightly used Nissan LEAFs, for only about $20K!!. Just message me.
I thought long and hard about buying one... but since I live in a suburb and drive into town, there would just be too many times when I would need more range w/o taking time to recharge. But if I lived in the city, I would have purchased one in a heartbeat.
Congrats and Congrats, sellitman!

(38,544 posts)I don't have a vehicle but did it with the assumption that I drove an average of 18,000 miles a year, which is the average for my sex and age group and getting 20 miles to the gallon. My carbon footprint was 50,948 lbs. of CO2 emissions per year. I did it again using 50 mpg on average, while still driving 18,000 a year, and that dropped my carbon footprint way down to 15,999 lbs. of CO2 emissions per year. A huge difference!
Kudos to you for taking such a step towards being carbon neutral!
Here is the link to the EPA's carbon footprint calculator.

(36,418 posts)carbon footprint over its lifetime. The ideal solution is to retrofit a plug-in electric or hybrid drivetrain into an older but still servicable auto and upgrade it. That also helps smaller companies and suppliers in the retrofit business.

(12,051 posts)with a Prius or a Toyota Camry hybrid. I have already test-driven both. The Camry is comfy and most like my wonderful Lexus, but gets 40 mpg. I'd really like to get the 50 mpg, but I find that the seats in the Prius aren't anywhere near as comfortable as either the Lexus or Camry. If I get a used Prius, I'd have to have the seats reupholstered or something.'
Mr Nay wants me to get a diesel VW, but I'm really not interested in diesel -- that shit is so much more expensive.

(14,799 posts)YAY on your new car....WTG
We bought one so we could actually afford to take the grandchildren real places
and best of all, we actually do zip them around So Cal and up and down the Coast.
It may not be a luxury type car but it sure is a luxury to wave at the gas pumps as we drive by.
In two years when our son moves on to grad school we will look for another hybrid /high mileage
vehicle and there will be more manufacturers making hybrids so he'll get our Prius and
we'll get a new car.

(10,271 posts)And love it. That car has survived Maine winters and Louisiana summers, and 3 dogs. With routine maintenance, the only time it's been in the shop is when some bimbo in an SUV rear-ended someone who rear-ended me. And even then the work was only cosmetic -- the frame was fine, as was the rear battery.

(5,178 posts)I'm still in an old Honda but having awakened to the reality of assisting corporate America being a losing battle and jettisoning the worst contributor of all, stocks, I'm getting much closer to carbon neutrality. Kudos to you!
