Musk gives 45 million a month to Trump. What will it take before "X" stops being cited in every tenth thread here?

I don't need to see those video clips that badly.

I still follow their bookmarked X accounts via direct internet access. Usually my not having an account doesn't preclude that--but I'd sure rather they moved elsewhere. I just don't understand why none of the competitors to Twitter have taken off (actually, I guess I do--none can afford to lose/toss as much $$$ as Musk). I "kinda" liked POST for a while but it just couldn't compete. I never liked Mastodon--is it still around? I will consider threads if any of those folks are posting there.

to coalesce around an alternative. I'm not too thrilled about the idea of threads because that's linked to Facebook and Instagram.

I guess it's just hard for people to move on from accounts that are 10+ years old. I will gladly move on but I can't do it alone. Lol.

I get the general point, but X is still widely used by many official accounts - see POTUS. I wish there was a legit movement away from it.

He's the one who pulled out of the race on Twitter. I don't understand why they would choose Twitter either. I somehow managed to ignore it and life continues without any issues.

spreading misinformation there. Many gen Z and millennials depend on twitter for work as many work online and X is the best way for them to keep their peeps in the loop. Helping them and keeping them politically savvy is the only reason I have anything to do with X.

There would be negative consequences if essentially all pro-democracy users abandoned "X" now. But continuing to use it perpetuates the cycle of it being a primary "go to" news source, with Musk exercising full control.

Having said that, your explanation doesn't explain why Musk's platform is still so widely used on DU.

But for virtually as long as there has been activist organizing, boycotts and the like have been a key tool used.. Back when we were supporting the Farm Workers by shunning table grapes, one could just as easily have dismissed those efforts by saying, "it's a free country, no one is making you eat them."

Threads is by Facebook, so that’s a hard pass. Blusky (don’t know how to spell it) is not really ready. And the decentralized ones are too confusing. I want all the people I follow to be in one place. I definitely don’t want 10 social media apps.
