I would to see, if possible, to video conference at the DNC. I absolutely love him.

(27,452 posts)I campaigned for him (I was 10 years old, stuffing envelopes and leaving literature on doorsteps) and he's been a personal hero of mine for nearly 50 years.

(672 posts)He was my hero that year, too!
When he campaigned for his second term, he inspired me to run for the Florida Legislature. My campaign slogans were Put a Nurse in the House! (Thered never been one before.) Give the Legislature a Shot in the Arm! And Nobody Cares More! Lots of fodder for campaign speeches. Endorsed by all the unions and important groups. And proud to say I made the lowest score of any candidate ever on the Moral Majority test. Yay!!
All my opponent could say was, Doesnt my opponent have nice legs? Grrrrr!! (Sound familiar?)
I was sickened when Jimmy Carter didnt win.
Such a wonderful person and great President. I pray Jimmy Carter lives to see Kamala tromp Trump.

(224,325 posts)Nuclear physicist Carter visited North Korea in 1994 on behalf of the Clinton administration and persuaded Kim Il Sung (Kim Jong Un's grandfather) to negotiate with the Clinton administration over the North Korean nuclear program. He said what the North Koreans wanted was "respect" and Jimmy Carter gave it to them. And that agreement continued to hold until George W. Bush* included North Korea in his "Axis of Evil."

(224,325 posts)Obviously, I've always been a huge admirer, the first candidate who I liked and took an interest in. I also have his autobiography, "A Full Life: Reflections at 90," read by the author. And he really has led a very full life, I don't think he even got to his run for the presidency until disc #5!

(3,233 posts)in the development of weapons technologies -- ground launched cruise missiles (in particular), stealth aircraft technology, advanced submarine technology -- that forced the Soviets to spend money they couldn't afford to spend to counter. This would go a long way towards speeding the collapse of the Iron Curtain, which Reagan got all the credit for.
And of course there were the Camp David Accords.

(224,325 posts)History apparently likes to credit Reagan for the fall of the USSR, but I continue to believe that Jimmy Carter did most of the work - have they forgotten about his grain embargo? And in his book - obviously written when he was 90 - he goes into great detail about quite a bit, including the Camp David Accords. Getting Menachem Begin and Anwar Sadat to agree on anything was quite a feat - at one point Sadat was packed up to leave, but President Carter convinced him to stay - and the rest is history.

(68,476 posts)I'm sure you all recall seeing him at Rosalyn's funeral; he was unable to even sit up.
I suspect speaking is difficult. His grandson, Jason, speaks for him. I suspect we will get a wonderful message from him on behalf of his grandfather.
I also feel certain he will see 100. And then he can be with his beloved partner.
Love you, Jimmy Carter.

(93,484 posts)All used up but his mind is still there. He recently expressed determination to make it to November so he could vote for Harris, according to his grandson.

(15,718 posts)but he appeared so frail at Rosalynns funeral that Id be surprised to see him on video or Zoom.
I could be wrong. Also, Jimmy Carter was my first political crush. I begged my parents to let me stay up late enough to see the election results when he beat Ford.

(29,233 posts)should let him know how precious he has been to us.
Editing to add, I wouldn't want to burden him with a video linkup unless he wanted to. That could take many forms, but what I WOULD like is a thoughtful and well-produced tribute to President Carter at the convention to show our appreciation. He could view it when he wanted.
