I just realized the next President will celebrate the 250th anniversary of the country

I realize i may be slow on the uptake but it wasn’t until I saw a post about a sign saying “After 248 years maybe it is time we give the girls a try” poster that it dawned on me.

The contrast behind celebrating the first quarter millennia of this country with the first Woman President versus its collapse under a traitorous wanna-be dictator couldn’t be more striking.

(Just wanted to add that while I fully believe the creators of that sign are very-well meaning, I do recognize the problem with using “girls”. I put it in my post because I was quoting what was on the sign.)

The parades, the Tall Ships, the fireworks, the NYS Bicentennial Barge that toured the Finger Lakes here in Upstate NY (They built a small museum / exhibit on an old Erie Canal work barge and towed it the entire length of the Barge Canal, including into lakes that had access to the canal, like the lake I lived on, Cayuga Lake), the Bicentennial Minutes on CBS; we even made the annual family vacation a trip to Washington DC! All of it filled me with a patriotism that I carry with me to this day.

I have tears in my eyes now... 🥹

I'll never forget Hemlock lake because it was pristine, untouched.

I totally get it, but I try not to change other people's words on signs they've created.

It is unfortunate really. The people upset by it are perfectly valid in their points. But the people behind the sign are very well meaning as well.

But remember when he wanted a parade for him bigger than the parades Putin & Xi hold for themselves (hmm, where do they post their wounded vets?)...Trump will insist on not only a parade, but a Space Force flyover!

If that happens, it will be called the 250th birthday of America, but that too will be a lie.

My bicentennial flag ( which was originally flown over the sewage treatment plant in Vancouver WA) next to a new Quarter Millennium flag.
