(4,181 posts)My thoughts that the police dont want anyone seeing the suicide victim body is because of the beating that he had to administer to himself prior to the suicide.

I'm horrified by this. It sends a message to the black community, and needs to be publicized and investigated.
I'm in Henderson county, which is in Western NC, 4+ hours away. At first I thought it happened near me. It might as well have.

(23,140 posts)A death investigation in Vance County is sparking questions and rumors online across the country.
Javion Magee, a 21-year-old truck driver from the Chicago area, was found dead in a rural area off Vanco Mill Road on Sept. 11. Investigators said he was not far from his truck, leaning with his back up against a tree and a rope around his neck.

(2,163 posts)"There's been information put out there that there's a lynching in Vance County. There is not a lynching in Vance County. The young man was not dangling from a tree. He was not swinging from a tree. The rope was wrapped around his neck. It was not a noose. There was not a knot in the rope, so therefore, it was not a lynching here in Vance County."

(64,935 posts)This doesn't sound like suicide.
Henderson, NC is just off a major highway, I-85, which is the thoroughfare from college towns up to Richmond and DC. It is a route for drug trafficking, among other things.
Vance County is a very poor, rural county. Two thoughts spring to mind: drug deal gone wrong, or vigilante white supremacists. I'm not confident in the Vance County law enforcement.

(808 posts)they used to chain Black men to trees and burn them alive then hack pieces of the incinerated corpse for "souvenirs:" this is also considered lynching. Google "strange fruit USA lynchings."

(39,180 posts)But given that he was found dead shortly after he bought that rope, there is a strong possibility of suicide. That's all.
John Shaft
(808 posts)A 21 year old truck driver who purchases rope doesn't point to suicide. The young man's personal possessions wouldn't be missing either.
ecstatic
(34,569 posts)A racist saw him purchasing the rope and killed him with his own rope.
ecstatic
(34,569 posts)Even if he purchased that item, that doesn't eliminate the possibility that a cop or another person saw him make that purchase and pounced. That would be a very convenient crime of opportunity actually.
When you look at all the other surrounding circumstances and the way the police department is conducting themselves, there definitely needs to be vigorous investigation and follow up from the DOJ.

(113,131 posts)Suicide? Unlikely, especially because hanging is such an unpleasant way to go. Driving full speed into a bridge support would have been more likely had he been suicidal. Suicide like this is a long shot.
Mom couldn't claim the body because of COVID RESTRICTIONS? HELL no. The cops know something and/or are in on it.
Will the family ever find out what happened? Probably not. I know the area, it's pretty desperate. Anyone who knows so,ething will be too afraid to talk.
Cops are going to have to do better than "he bought a rope at Wal Mart," trick drives do that alll the time when they feel a load shifting and need to tie it down more securely.
This story stinks to high heaven. I hope the state AG realizes how bad it looks and sends a team in to do a better job than those cops did.

"A new report from researchers with the Johns Hopkins Center for Injury Research and Policy finds the majority of the previously reported increase in suicide in the U.S. between 2000 and 2010 is attributable to an increase in hanging/suffocation, which increased from 19 percent of all suicides in 2000 to 26 percent of all suicides in 2010"

Your inaccurate first paragraph destroys the rest of your argument . If one is wrong with the opening statement, then everything that follows is suspect too.

(27,953 posts)Being young, employed, and not from the area doesn't mean it wasn't suicide. Doesn't mean it was, but none of that is a "gotcha" that means he was murderer.
