Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsTrump senses that he is going to lose the election.
And the more he senses that, the more dangerous and violent he becomes. Forty-nine days can be an eternity.
Someone once said that "the price of liberty is eternal vigilance". It has never been more true than at this time in our history, in my opinion.
As we see in Springfield, Ohio, the violence has already begun. And it all started with a lie, as we can anticipate further violence from further lies.
There is no bottom to Mr Trump. He will do anything to win or to keep his opponent from claiming victory. He is a toxic person. He thrives on division. And he always promotes himself.
We cannot look away because he will stab us in the back if given the opportunity.
We must be vigilant in the days ahead.

He's going to stand in front of a "President Elect" sign the minute polls close.
He's going to bullshit his way into this thing. Go on offense--HARD. Have everyone else have to prove he didn't win. All focus will be on HIM and what he says or does.

(973 posts)Trump has insulated his campaign with yes men. Do you really believe Laura Loomer is telling him he's losing? Of course not. It's the exact opposite. He's being told he's winning, maybe even by wide margin and why he's double-downing on the same crazy talking points.
In fact, I don't take the rhetoric to mean he's panicking. I take it to mean he's isolating himself more and more with the incendiary people he's associated with the most.
If you'll recall, back in August, the campaign brought back Corey Lewandowski. It's not a surprise that's when he really started ramping up the real crazy talk (as opposed to just the usual talk about sharks and batteries).
Susie Wiles and Chris LaCivita are being pinched out and Trump is leaning more on the loons - not because he's losing but because he believes these weirdos will actually help him win.
And none will tell him that he's losing.
Not Loomer. Not Lewandowski. And the ones who possibly would, like Wiles, have been iced out in favor of the loons.
It's why you'll read one story about how Trump's campaign wants him to stay on message ... then another story about how he can't.
The more traditional portion of the campaign senses trouble. The extreme, conspiratorial side does not. And that's the side Trump increasingly sides with specifically because they tell him exactly what he wants to hear.

(11,257 posts)We're not going to see any slow down until the inauguration which is why plans are already being assembled for the aftermath. If DC expects bad juju, I think we all need to have our spidey sense amplified in the next 49 days and beyond.
The Trumpers will be out for vengeance and Agent Orange will be whipping the chaos.
Because that's who he is.
What we're witnessing now is a mere prelude, I'm afraid.

(12,403 posts)cash in our home safe. I will not leave my dogs so we have all of their vet records in the safe. We will pack the car and head to Canada. I do not like the heat so Mexico is out. I think everyone should have some cash regardless. They will try to shut everything down.
I do not want to leave but we will if we have to. My husband has a wanted skill as a respected scientist so we are better off than most people.

(2,149 posts)So Mexico, here I come! Let's see - I can do my early voting in October, then head back down to central Mexico in November and watch all the election shenanigans from the safety of my friends' hostel, while fielding questions from them about what the HECK is happening. I already told them that Trump is a true autocrat, and way crazier than AMLO - I told them that American politics is a whole new level of crazy! But look on the bright side - If Kamala wins in November, I'm sure that she and Claudia Sheinbaum, the president elect of Mexico, could become good friends. That's what my friend Juan, the eternal optimist, is saying.
And by the way - Mexico's presidential election season is only three months long. Do you think that might have something to do with the lower level of political craziness in Mexico?

(807 posts)I've thought about somewhere like Belize, or Costa Rica, those used to be places for expats to go. I can't take heat and humidity though. I'm just stuck here. Plus, my mother is old, but if she doesn't get her shit together about my youngest sister, the dope addict, it may not be my problem anymore.
I'm more worried about my sons, but they won't leave. I've tried for years to get them to set themselves up with the skills another country would take and have enough savings to get them started. They just won't.
So, whatever happens, we'll have to ride it out the best we can. I still believe Harris is going to win, and bigly. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

(2,184 posts)Reading the comments on this thread about all the evil he will be committing from now until after the inauguration and how we need to be ready for it etc. makes me think the same thing. This person is a threat to society and our country as a whole. Maybe it's just me and my Neanderthal DNA (they didn't tolerate clan members like him, sitting around wringing their hands about it) wishing he wasn't walking the earth. You know, as tragic as that would be.

(3,161 posts)What's important is winning electoral votes in those battleground states with razor-thin margins. That's where the GOP is focusing their voter suppression protocols - relentless challenges to votes/voters at polling places, funky new online utilities with no rigor or safeguards against abuse they've deployed to remove/cancel voter registrations, mass voter roll purges that are still occurring even this late, GOP lawyers everywhere getting ready to flood the courts with phony grievances, intimidation of poll and election workers, implied violence if Democrats try to "steal the election" (translation: if Democrats actually win the election). Plus several other tactics.
Kamala will get 10-12 million more votes than the Orange Asshole ®. But if she "loses" in battleground states, she loses the electoral college and the end of America as we knew it will begin. (That's not hyperbole. Project 2025 lays it out.)
We cannot rest. We've got to be throttles-to-the-firewall until election day, and maybe after. Complacency kills.
