Please let me clarify. it seems to me that she used to be on the leading edge of really important stories that were breaking - case in point, she was where I first heard about the "fake electors" and basically asked the question "why is no one paying attention to this?". Now, when she does her normal Monday slot, it's more of a rehash of what's already been reported and rehashed to death by all the other MSNBC pundits. I know she's gone on to bigger things, but if she can't bring the fire to her old seat she should permanently give up to someone who can do it more justice.
Just my $.02

(396 posts)Rachel's show, like most of the other MSNBC folks (the ones I like, anyway), is available the next day as a podcast. It actually has fewer commercials. You won't see videos of course, but you've probably seen them elsewhere by that time if they're big. Or catch them on YouTube.
There are lots of podcast apps - I use podbean.

Just go to your podcast app on your phone, if you have one, and search the name of the anchor you like. Another plus is that many apps allow you to speed up the audio (which doesn't make it mickey-mouse) by fractions if you want to get through it faster.

(7,206 posts)brings more information and in depth analysis to her reporting. My problem is that I began to find her analysis depressing. I was always left feeling frustrated and a little scared. I am truly a coward.

(1,857 posts)listen to her on the radio years ago and have been a loyal listener/viewer since. She has more to say than all the other hosts on MSNBC and the other political channels. None of it is BS. There are times it may be boring, or less interesting, but you can bet she is telling the truth.

(8,105 posts)with anyone about anything political. She get the interviews that no one else would get, I think because she is respected by those in the political arena. MSNBC has some great talent and although Maddow now does spend some time promoting her podcasts and the documentary tonight - it is all very relevant historically and shows how our present day situation is not a sudden occurance but usually an effort that has been in the works sometimes for decades.
I think her style of explaining things is very much still relevant. (I'm a fan ☮ )

(15,778 posts)1. Rachel now has a once a week show. And, her opinion matters to a huge number of viewers.
2. A once a week show is not conducive to investigative journalism.
3. A better question is: Why didn't her replacement or some other MSNBC pundit follow her lead into investigative journalism?

(1,023 posts)I just loved the energy she used to bring to this show when she was full time. I miss that. She still does a good job explaining the relevant issues, It's just not as good the Rachel I remember from the Air America days. The hunger is gone and she has nothing to prove. I watched it last night and turned it off about half way through the show. Sorry Rachel.

(7,251 posts)The collective We insist they are "on" every night. If they seem to falter or don't live up to OUR standards WE will be upset and attack them. If they say the least little word the way WE don't like WE threaten to shun them. If they take a day or week off WE jones for them to come back and have the nerve to suggest that THEY HAVE TO BE THERE FOR US!!
It's a wonder any of them are left. Most of WE don't deserve THEM.

(817 posts)...but it's my understanding when Rachel found out KO was badmouthing Chris Hayes' show and its ratings to execs at MSNBC in an attempt to return to the channel, that did it for her. She loves Chris Hayes like he's her brother. I love KO, but nobody burns a bridge like he does.
PCIntern
(26,395 posts)Objectively, Hayes is third-tier intellect and his analytics are often way off the mark. His hysterical delivery is on occasion entertaining, but when hes on a panel he is overshadowed by nearly everyone.
Im sure opinions vary in this regard, but thats how I feel.

(542 posts)When Maddow demanded MSNBC reduce her on-air work load so she could pursue other projects, someone decided Monday would be her day. We don't know if it was her or MSNBC. On Monday you get to review all the news that happened over the weekend. It's seldom that anything politically earth-shattering happens over the weekend, except the occasional golf game interrupted by whatever that was or a SCOTUS decision issued late Friday night. And yeah, on the rare occasions I've watched lately it hasn't been the professor educating us about the importance of some overlooked nuance, or some missed connection we need to make. It's been someone trying to fill up an hour by preaching to the converted about the threats to democracy. It seems to me that Thursday would have been a better choice, allowing her to review the "legislative week" (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday), but hey, not my call.
On the other hand, perhaps cable news punditry just hit its sell-by date.
infullview

I've never been any paragon of virtue in my own work history and have briefly waded through a few ethical sewers for money, but I never made a career of it.
Got a check from Larry Flynt once, but that was that. And not the worst.
Comcast is one of those corporations I could never work for. There are a few. If Elon Musk offered me a six figure salary I'd tell him to fuck off and die, I'd rather be homeless and living on the streets. Once or twice did something like that too, burning bridges and throwing a few hand grenades across the river for good measure.
Burn some bridges and throw a few hand grenades across the river, Rachel Maddow...

(24,726 posts)I'm not a big fan of her replacement, Alex Wagner, with her show's cringe-inducing 80s theme music, either. I resent Rachel keeping her foot in the door at MSNBC with an hour's worth of history lessons although her heart is obviously with her podcast venture.
Someone like Keith Olbermann could make good use of that time slot. What a waste.
