An 11 y.o. boy in middle school from Port Orange, FL, has been arrested, perp walked, and charged for threateni

I do not believe 11 year old kids should be perp walked for all the world to see.
The kid needs counseling--maybe for years, not this. No!

An 11 year-old boy in middle school from Port Orange, Florida, has been arrested, perp walked, and charged for threatening to commit a mass shooting at a middle school.

Authorities also showed off his arsenal of weapons.

In a mental hospital and therapy should be administered for a very long time. His parents need to be investigated and jailed. All of his acquaintances should be investigated.

But I am not comfortable with this society’s assumption it is the parents fault. Mental illness has a very complex origin.

Someone had to pay for the guns, though, and help hide the guns.

IDK how much difference it makes, but were all those weapons in his room or just in the house & he had access?

(regardless of the position or political axe being ground)

On the other hand, is it not somewhat relevant to juxtapose the the trauma caused to the perpetrator - against that caused to society and the victims by these actions, and threats?

however describing a bunch of airsoft guns and some display "swords" as weapons is really stretching the definition.

It is good to see them taking a threat seriously, but this is a major overreaction to treat the kid like he is the reincarnation of bin Ladin

There were at least two long rifles and what looked to my unskilled eyes to be a shotgun.

I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of this kid's angst.

they can look very real but are the modern equivalent of the dart guns most of us played with as kids. Some have had the orange tips removed that identify them as "not real". They shoot plastic BBs.

There are a lot of people who clearly don't understand what they're looking at, and some of the tweets from media folks really aren't helping matters.

but this is a major overreaction
And not just by the sheriff, heh.

DAYTONA BEACH — A Florida sheriff fed up with a spate of false school shooting threats is taking a new tactic to try get through to students and their parents: he’s posting the mugshot of any offender on social media.

Law enforcement officials in Florida and across the country have seen a wave of school shooting hoaxes recently, including in the wake of the deadly attack at Apalachee High School in Winder, Ga., which killed two students and two teachers.

Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood said he’s tired of the hoaxes targeting students, disrupting schools and sapping law enforcement resources. In social media posts Monday, Chitwood warned parents that if their kids are arrested for making these threats, he’ll make sure the public knows.

“Since parents, you don’t want to raise your kids, I’m going to start raising them,” Chitwood said. “Every time we make an arrest, your kid’s photo is going to be put out there. And if I can do it, I’m going to perp walk your kid so that everybody can see what your kid’s up to.”

Gives me hope. And he is in FUCKING Florida.
It’s way past time to address American grown terrorism.
But he is extremely a minority.
FOB supporting Trump, and look at the Sheriff in Ohio looking to get names of all Harris’s supporters.

Everyone is equal under the law . . . but some are more equal than others.

The 11-year-old and his parents probably deserve it. But then why doesn't the doddering dictator who tried to overthrow his own government deserve it? WHY?

Merrick Garland seems to be a bigger coward than old man Trump.
