Vance revives old GOP fights on ObamaCare insurance coverageRepublican vice presidential nominee Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio) on Sunday floated an idea that would turn back the clock on covering people with preexisting conditions, relitigating a position that was a hallmark of GOP proposals to replace ObamaCare during Donald Trumps presidency.
In an interview on NBCs Meet the Press, Vance said Trumps health plan would promote choice in the health system by separating sicker people into different health insurance coverage pools from the healthier populations.
Vance said Trumps health plan would focus on deregulating the insurance markets to not have a one-size-fits-all approach that puts a lot of people into the same insurance pools, into the same risk pools while also making sure that people have access to the doctors and care that they need.
Vances comments come after Trump said on the debate stage last week that he had concepts of a plan to replace the health law if it were repealed.

(1,074 posts)Absurd and horrible. It would make insurance for people with medical issues impossible to afford.

(536 posts)The problem with putting Americans into high-risk pools is that the rates would be so high, that they could not afford it.
I would be one of those that would be put into high risk pools.
I am a lymphoma survivor and am on my third remission.
I am currently undergoing maintenance treatments that cost $1 million a year.
In 1990, I was first diagnosed with lymphoma.
I was on my second remission when ACA was passed and when Trump and GOP attempted its repeal.
It returned in 2019.
I went through 4 different treatments over 2 years and all failed.
Luckily, ACA forbids lifetime limits and the 5th treatment was successful.
Trump does not understand the complexities of cancer care in this country and why lifetime limits are nonsense.
One, sometimes you cannot choose your preferred treatment because insurance will not pay for it.
Two, you must try a different treatment first.
Three, if you are able to survive a failed treatment, there may be a promising treatment around the corner.
1, 2 & 3 happened to me.
On the fifth treatment, my insurer initially approved, rescinded, then was reversed on appeal. Their reasoning was that they wanted me to use a different treatment first.
I started my fifth treatment in 2021; FDA approved it for use in 2020.
I know sickness as it relates to my personal experience, but I couldn't imagine what you have been through.
I sincerely wish for your continued health and wellness.
