An assassination would make him a martyr and elevate him to sainthood for the Magats. What is now political fervor would become quasi-religious fanaticism, and while he would not regain the White House his legacy of Trumpism would become an undying cult for generations. Best he be allowed to simply fade into obscurity as the loser he is in November.

Also, another reason why we would never assassinate him is because then we would have JD Vance as president (assuming an insane burst of support for the victim-martyr's running mate) and Vance is so bad that even many of the Magats cannot stand him.
