Follow-up to the Alaska-Hawaiian Merger story...

I'm enrolled in Alaska Airlines' frequent-flyer program even though I don't frequently fly. This means I get all their frequent-flyer emails.

The one I got today starts out with the normal "we are excited to be working together" BS that you'd expect when one company buys another one. Then we get to the meat of the thing:

"A first for a U.S. airline, we will maintain both beloved brands."

So very sad about this.

Alas, no one consulted me

Still.

So long, Hawaiian music, hula, cultural videos, education on flight about how to be safe on the reef without hurting it, reef-safe sunscreen, don't walk on the reef, respect the culture, local knowledge.

Hello, being treated like cattle in a shute.

This is heartbreaking but here we are.

What will be lost is not irretrievable but it won't be saved, almost certainly. We shall see.

But would moose be able to thrive in Hawaii's climate?

Oh, fun story and I wish I'd had a camera at this point. The printing plant I work in is in the middle of Coeur d'Alene, ID's downtown core. Last night I had to walk outside to round up my crew to run a newspaper through the inserter, and while I was out there two deer were walking down the street between our two buildings.
