West Coast Teamsters break with national chapter in endorsing Harris

https://www.politico.com/news/2024/09/18/west-coast-teamsters-endorse-harris-00179923

West Coast Teamsters announced their endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris on Wednesday, just minutes after national Teamsters leadership declined to issue a presidential endorsement.

The move represents a sharp break within the powerful union’s membership in liberal states like California, where former President Donald Trump remains a widely unpopular political figure. The union’s national headquarters released internal survey results earlier in the day that showed close to 60 percent of its members backed Trump.

Teamsters Joint Councils 7 and 42 — which are made up of 39 local unions representing 300,000 members in California, Nevada, Hawaii and Guam — wrote in a statement that Harris and her running mate Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz have a history of supporting expanded labor protections for workers, like the proposed Protect the Right to Organize Act and a Minnesota law that will ban employers from forcing workers to attend anti-labor meetings.

“Teamster members work and live in cities as well as in rural communities, come from diverse backgrounds, and have different views, but Joint Council 7 and 42 Teamsters refuse to be divided by extremist political forces or greedy corporations that want to see us fail,” said Teamsters Joint Council 7 President Peter Finn. “As Teamsters we will stand together to have a strong voice on the job, provide for our families, and serve the communities where we work.”

What Union ON THE PLANET would endorse a fake populist "billionaire" who goes on a failing, technologically challenged radio show on X and brags about firing striking workers with Elon? Makes no sense....so Trump hates who their a lot of their membership hates, is that a reason to cut off their collective noses to spite their collective faces? Make it make sense...good on the West Coast Teamsters.

I cannot understand any union member supporting Donny the orange. Seriously, that's not even voting against one's best interests. That's putting a flashing neon sign on their heads that reads..."Please F--- Me!"

A whole bunch of US truckers are white racists that love the flaming orange a55hole This phenomenon is prevalent in Canada as well as proven by those jackwads that shut down Ottawa. Same racist scum-type. "Poorly educated" just like fatso trump brags about.

TransAm Trucking v Labor Review Board was a decision handed down by the 10th Circuit when Neil Gorsuch was on that court, and Gorsuch was one of the judges who heard the case.

https://law.justia.com/cases/federal/appellate-courts/ca10/15-9504/15-9504-2016-07-15-0.html

The facts of this case are clear: Truck driver Alphonse Maddin was pulling a load through Illinois when he was close to running out of fuel. He pulled the truck to the side of the road to call his dispatch for authorization to fuel out-of-network. Within 10 minutes the brakes on the trailer froze solid. Dispatch ordered him to sit tight and wait for a mechanic to come thaw the brakes. The guy almost died of hypothermia in the process. Maddin unhooked his trailer, went to a truck stop to warm up, then returned to the trailer where someone was finally there to thaw the brakes. Maddin was fired for "abandoning his load." The National Labor Relations Board ruled that he'd been fired in violation of the whistleblower protection clauses in the Surface Transportation Authorization Act and ordered TransAm to reinstate him. They appealed all the way up to the 10th Circuit, who refused to overturn the NLRB. The decision was 2-1...the judge who decided TransAm was right in firing a driver who refused to die in his cab was Neil Gorsuch.

This is the first of three bad judges Trump welded into the Supreme Court.
