Country music star Garth Brooks has been accused of sexual assault and battery in a lawsuit from a Jane Roe who says she worked as a hairstylist and makeup artist for the award-winning singer.
The complaint, filed in a state court in California on Thursday and obtained by CNN, states the alleged incidents occurred in 2019. She claims she was once raped by Brooks during a work trip.
In a statement to CNN later on Thursday, Brooks said, For the last two months, I have been hassled to no end with threats, lies, and tragic tales of what my future would be if I did not write a check for many millions of dollars.
Hush money, no matter how much or how little, is still hush money. In my mind, that means I am admitting to behavior I am incapable of ugly acts no human should ever do to another, he added. We filed suit against this person nearly a month ago to speak out against extortion and defamation of character. We filed it anonymously for the sake of families on both sides.

(10,359 posts)... to say much about this story (its truth, I mean). Considering how stories like this proceed, I would look for a couple things. First, other victims feeling strength to speak up. Second, if Brooks did this, I would expect his wealth and celebrity would enable him to reoffend... and that must be prevented.

(14,454 posts)I don't know enough about this to say whether or not this is true, hopefully, not, Garth Brooks was one of my late wife's favorite country western singers.
I'll await for more info before I pass judgement, let's see if other women come forward to confirm or if this is an attempt to imping on his character.

(455 posts)I mean anything can be true along those lines and we never really know the private lives of these people.
I'm actually inclined to give Brooks the benefit of the doubt on this one the story told by the victim is shall we say a bit fanciful.
That said I certainly been wrong before so again no real judgment on either side.

(120,591 posts)know enough yet. And I think about President Carter, and Rosalynn Carter working with brooks and his wife, and just hope they were not mistaken.

(1,021 posts)Showing threats leading up to this then it's going to be quickly thrown out.
I have a hard time believing that he's doing this in the heart of the #MeToo movement years when celebrities were being canceled left and right on a near daily basis.

(72,658 posts)whenever they've popped up, and the few clips of his interviews have given the impression that he was decent along with his wife. So this news was a bombshell to my impression. But over the past couple of years enrolled in The University of YouTube, I've seen some of the raunchy comedians and one Tom SEGURA - a rat member of ROGAN's pack - had a couple of years bit going on in which he randomly accused BROOKS of being a serial killer, like, "Where are the bodies, Garth?" and harped on what a phony BROOKS was - all of it being without any kind of rationale for the constant picking-at. Like, where was this coming from?
This SEGURA creep got his public persona ripped when it turned out he grew up rich while having the image of being an Everyman, then had a meltdown in an airport and posted himself ranting about how "poor" people only have themselves to blame and are envious of "successful/rich" dudes like him with expensive watches or some such, besides firmly embedding himself in the ROGAN syndicate. So I stopped clicking on his stuff.
But now SEGURA is going to ride this BROOKS news for all it's worth.
Sang at Biden's inauguration. Maybe that is why this Segura guy is singling him out.
