Anybody notice that the FB page "NOAA Hurricane Update Page Official ✓"

with almost every post they hint at conspiracy theories that Trump is pushing? Things like NC not getting help, being abandoned, where's FEMA, etc. That just gets all the MAGAts stirred up in the comments. I'm thinking "Official ✓" is just part of the name they call themselves and it's really a russian front. It was created 9 yrs ago. Unfortunately it has over 295k members.

I had originally joined because I have friends and relatives in the various hurricane target areas, but I just trashed it.

1. It's a private group & not associated with the government or with NOAA.

I would question if they have the right to use the NOAA logo.

While I get the personal use of being in contact with friends and family, it doesn't seem many limit it to that. Increasingly some of the widespread garbage is coming over here in the guise of "Can you help me counter this? My daughter's friend shared this with me (or my daughter-in-law, or the woman I worked with or... " Granted that may be sincere and I will often provide input, but I do find it a bit grating. Especially the garbage DUers have countered for years now, but being posted here anew at election time. It is hard to know what to make of that, but it does trigger my skepticism. If some here can enlighten me as to how our input might help counter that, I'm all ears.

As to the fake NOAA page, did you alert FB admins on it (or whatever measures FB allows for that kind of thing?)

Here's the official NOAA Facebook page:
https://www.facebook.com/NOAA

Screenshot - but it doesn't say official (which should be any salient-thinking human's first clue that it IS official - it doesn't need to say it)

The gullibility of some is frightening.
