i know i don't post hardly ever, but i do read here almost every day, i had an experience i like to tell you about. Mainly i just want to tell it. OK, i totally reject the idea that states (or anyone for that matter) can VOTE on my rights, I believe that rights are rights, and are not subject to anyone's opinions or a freaking vote. Seriously, this leave it to the states is bullshit.
So anyway, was at a concert with my friend group, and I ran into a mega couple, who i know thru a many years ago job. Because maga's cannot read the room (this is Seattle, for petes sake), and they were standing around, like they wanted to be announced, so I announced them.
I introduced them as "they this is Alan, who would force a women to give birth against her will, and his lovely wife Sheila, who wants her daughter to grow up with less rights than herself".
boy did they get mad, and they left shortly after. Yes it was immature, and Yes I felt great about it. I keep reliving the moment in my head, and it was beautiful.

(3,169 posts)seriously, MAGA's are not pro-life (Bwahaha, AS IF), they would force a women to give birth against her will. They don't like hearing that, truth hurts them baby boys.

(2,414 posts)is what was the reaction of the rest of the room when they left?

(8,074 posts)I dont understand how Magas assume EVERYONE secretly agrees with them.
Here in Texas they have NO problem telling people they are his supporters.

A few years ago I ran across one of their albums in a used record store. I should have bought it but I already have too many.

(99 posts)I like the cut of your jib. Well done.
You might also mention this:
If god is against abortion why does he abort so many fetuses with so many miscarriages?
God is the biggest "abortionist" out there.
Plus, why the recipe for abortion in Numbers 5:11-31, and no other mention of abortion in the bible, if yahweh is so hot and bothered by the procedure?
I call bullshit. It's just about subjugating women.
AmandaRuth
(3,169 posts)this is a big subject with me and my girlfriends, if the law can control our bodies and, as some municipalities are doing, control our speech and movement, this goes so far beyond just banning abortion. This is trying to control our thoughts, and forcing us to accept THEIR idea of what our roles are in the world (babymakers).
If they can indeed legislate our speech (and therefore our minds), and control movement, they can literally strip away anyone's rights for anything.
also, i talk too much

(7,541 posts)I bet those magas were absolutely stunned by your truthful statement. So very often, they mouth-off and spew their talking points as if everyone in the group is in agreement. Good for you, for heading them off at the pass.

(58,031 posts)If they were standing around with some, Were here now, so please tell these people who we are attitude, spoken unspoken, then they were begging for exactly what you did. Im sure they expected to be introduced citing their wealth, status, ancestry or position, but you picked something equally defining, and at least as accurate. Obviously, it was not in the terms they preferred (extreme magats would have been proud to have been introduced that way). But maybe, in the near future, when angrily recounting the incident to others, someone will pointedly ask, well, was she wrong?
PSJust remember, there are parts of the country where, after hearing such an introduction, the crowd would have applauded!

(1,775 posts)I admire your forthright approach and face-to-face with these "MAGA" people. I've done the same to some in my neighborhood.
They need to know, in no uncertain terms, that their cultist perspective is not unchallenged. Whether we change minds is not the point. If we give them pause to consider their foolishness, that's worth it. And if enough of us challenge them, their fever might break.
Alas, most, I doubt it, but a few is worth the effort. Always invite them to talk more. I truly feel that we are the implicit agents of healing, and it will take many years. Sadly, some are lost.

(21,444 posts)They have to stand behind what they are forcing onto women - and other atrocities as well. This was not immature. The problem is they think they are innocent because they just hold a belief. In reality the deaths and maiming of women that is caused by the support of those beliefs is on them and they need to know it.

I think that would be a totally exhausting way to live, deciding to embarrass people in front of friends over politics.
But your situation is obviously different.
