I Had More Common Sense When I Was A Kid

When I was a kid I had more common sense than grown ass Magats have today. I am 77 and I was watching Groucho Marx on TV, he had some kind of game show.

I don't remember exactly what Groucho was referring to but he said, "Who are you going to believe, me, or your lying eyes?"

I was a kid, and I laughed because I knew it was a stupid joke.

To belong to today's Magat political party, one has to give up common sense and reason. A Magat must repeat whatever TSF tells them to repeat, like migrants eating cats and dogs, like TSF won the 2020 election, like "they" control the weather. The sad part is what should be laughed at is then promoted and debated by the MSM to give it some kind of credibility.

Groucho would make a proud member of today's Magat party.

I was simply referring to that one saying.

I guess that TSF copied that saying from Groucho.

3. Dump must have copied it - Groucho's the only one I remember that ever said it.

I'm 72 and also remember watching the show - was it 'You Bet Your Life'? The show had a bird that dropped down with the secret word - I was a kid and wanted to get a bird because of that.

I remember the secret word. My memory is good, it just doesn't last as long.

make a good MAGA today. He was a liberal Dem.

The game show that he had on TV was You Bet Your Life. His "insults" were part of his comedy style, like Don Rickles.

Groucho used the saying as a joke, Magats are blindly loyal to complete nonsense.

8. IIRC, he once said "I don't want to be in a club that would have me as a member."

It might have been a line from a movie - if it was, I wouldn't doubt that it was his own comment tossed in. He was a comic genius.

The thing that I remember most about him is not anything he said or did. It's that I stayed home from school on a Friday, not feeling well, and was watching his show when the network broke in with an announcement that shots had been fired at Kennedy's motorcade in Dallas.

I don't know if the duck that came down and gave you $100 if you said the "Secret Word" had a name.

album cover with Groucho and John.

To get an idea of Marx political feelings, go watch Duck Soup, one of the greatest movies ever made.

"I don't care to belong to any club that will have me as a member."
-- Groucho Marx

Groucho really wanted his daughter Melinda to become a singer (like Frank Sinatra's daughter Nancy), but Melinda's heart was not really into it and her singing career fizzled. She now lives in obscurity in California.
Groucho had Melinda on his show several times when she was a kid, to show off her singing. This clip is from a few years later, 1965:
