The little generator purred loudly without missing a beat except for the ($200) gas refills. That saved the produce from the summer garden in the freezer. Bit drained but happy to be back and my deepest sympathies to those also afflicted. It's a challenge.

(572 posts)The family comes for a feast on my birthday in two weeks and I'll have the Silver Queen corn and the squash casseroles and the greens and beans and homegrown potatoes to keep them coming back!

(53,188 posts)back with an 8 day power outage. Every day I came home from work and felt like crying when I saw my dark neighborhood.
I'm very happy for you that it's back.

(572 posts)It is a mental stress for sure. I was very fortunate to have a new 4 mo. old pup to keep me company and she was indeed a comfort.

(9,023 posts)They said 1400 power poles were broken in our area. I had one; my neighbors didn't and they had power 3 days before mine was restored.

(34,515 posts)I always tell myself I'd evacuate if the power went out for more than half a day, but what if it went out across the whole country? I'd be fcked! And sooo bored as well.
It's a Sportsman 4000, 3000 running watts. Picked up at half-price sale Home Depot 4 yrs. ago. She has seen me thru a tornado, a blizzard and now 2 tropical storms. The sale price was only $269 but today I saw the same machine at Lowes for $999. You might want to wait until hurricane season is over before making a move.

(4,555 posts)* but as long as the doors remained shut tightly, the fridge and the freezer were perfectly fine with holding their temperatures overnight.
At bedtime, we moved the generator back into the garage and chained it to the riding mower (just in case).
I'm happy to hear that you survived. The first thing we did after the power returned, and the water tank had time to re-heat, was to take a nice hot steaming shower! (Ahhhhh!)
