Just received this. I've been contributing to their excellent work for several years. I will try to do a bit more.

Dear Guardian reader,
In the past 72 hours, two of Americas largest newspapers have declined to endorse a candidate for president in this election. The LA Times and the Washington Post both have a tradition of issuing editorial endorsements, but in this most consequential of contests for our country, they have chosen to sit on the sidelines of democracy and not alienate any candidate.
Something these two papers have in common? They both have billionaire owners who could face retaliation in a Trump presidency.
It has never been clearer that media ownership matters to democracy. The Guardian is not billionaire-owned; nor do we have shareholders. We are supported by readers and owned by The Scott Trust, which guarantees our editorial independence in perpetuity. Nobody influences our journalism. We are fiercely independent and accountable only to you, our readers.
We need to raise $2m in order to keep up our momentum next year. Your ongoing support has helped us enormously. Are you able to spare anything again today?
The stakes of this election could not be higher. Fearless journalism and an informed public are bedrocks of our democracy, and it is an abdication of our duty as journalists to sit out this election out of self-interest. A Guardian editorial strongly endorsed Kamala Harris for president earlier this week and we are unafraid of any potential consequences.
Please help protect the truly free press by contributing to the Guardian today.
Make a one-time contribution
Yours,
Betsy Reed

I do subscribe to their other non-US feeds (RSS) just to see how they operate world wide.

This had me thinking about Canada, too.. During the bush years I remember they had real news on the CBC.

But some of us do try!

(522 posts)Is a good paper. Theyve always been my favorite. I just bit it and started donating to them. I dont take any subscriptions of any kind, and they are kind enough to let you pay when you can. There are so many books and magazines Id love to have, I usually just buy used copies. I dont mind them being months old.☺️ it keeps them out of the landfills.

Did the LA Times decline to endorse Kamala Harris because of her support for Israel?
The call was made by the newspapers owner, whose daughter is a vocal supporter of Palestinian rights

(983 posts)...Faux News and The New York Post, which are propaganda channels for the Republican Party. Part of the answer of how is it people have been so easily indoctrinated in the MAGA cult is the fact outlets like The New York Times and The Washington Post live behind paywalls. Murdoch is willing to let his propaganda channels be loss leaders for the power it amasses for him. The billionaire that owns The Washington Post cows in fear.

(23,862 posts)If Trump wins, they might gain some favor, some access.
If Trump loses, there will be no repercussion, no vengeance from the Harris administration.
So, Trump is the "safe" endorsement.

Of course your own personal mileage may vary based on whether or not you agree on the overall reporting over a reasonable length of time.

(835 posts)Was very surprised to see CNN labeled "Very Liberal" right alongside RawStory, HuffPost and DailyKos. I also wouldn't put The Hill under the label of "Center".

(39,113 posts)My wife isn't likely to quit her Washington Post subscription. She's a great fan of Alexandra Petri, who did endorse Kamala Harris.

But if I were the paper, I would be a little embarrassed that it has fallen to me, the humor columnist, to make our presidential endorsement. I will spare you the suspense: I am endorsing Kamala Harris for president, because I like elections and want to keep having them.
