Juliette Kayyem on ballot box fire: Prosecutor should not allow bail. Big perp walk. This box is tied to swing district.

Juliette Kayyem
It is going to feel like wack-a-mole for the next 7 days. Officials are being transparent about last pickup and getting word out to those who may have dropped off since then; they will allow for new ballots (that's why they are signed on the envelope to identify) for those who suspect their ballots were burned. I'm pretty confident they will find this person (too many cameras, he left explosive device behind so that will be traced). Prosecutor should not allow bail. Big perp walk. This box is tied to swing district.

KATU is live at the scene of a ballot box fire at Multnomah County Elections office. Police and Fire are investigating, say an incendiary device was put in the box to start the fire #LiveOnK2

On its face it applies to the destruction, defacement, mutilation or other alteration of the marking of a paper ballot which has been cast in an election where those actions are taken within a year following the election. While the law should be interpreted to apply to this situation on the theory that once early voting starts, the election has started and any ballots deposited in an early voting ballot box have been "cast" in that election, and therefore charges under that section should be brought, given some of the decisions I've seen involving voting, such as the recent decision holding that mailed ballots, even if postmarked before the election, can't be counted if received after election day, I wouldn't be surprised if some judge tried to interpret the provision as not applying to early ballots.

Oregon is thick with sovereign citizens and sympathizers. The entire Sovereign Citizen movement started in Oregon - Henry Beach, William Gale and Roger Elvick all started their shit in the Portland area, and Winston Shrout was from Hillsdale. From there we got people like LeRoy Schweitzer and Rodney Skurdal, who were from Montana, and Randy Weaver, who was from Idaho.

It also happened across the Columbia in Vancouver, Clark County, Washington, the home of the Proud Boys.

you can check to see if your ballot was received and if not, ask for a replacement. Its unfortunate that they can't automatically send out new ballots but its impossible to know whose ballots were destroyed.

Imagine if a story goes out that they arrested a person who did this but instead of locking him up, he was rendered to another country much as we did to the 9/11 suspects.
Now imagine the concern from the person who did that or someone who knows them then they realized the legal-eeze wasn't going to protect them whether the RNC or whomever would pay for lawyers. Things happen. People disappear, sometimes for a very long time.
They could hope their best scenario would be a silent trip to Guantanamo.
Just a thought.
Precedent has already been set and not questioned by the Supine Court.
And to paraphrase an old quip, "How long can you hold your breath?"
