A National Park Service spokesman says the Harris campaign has amended its permit application to accommodate more than 40,000 people for the VP's "closing argument" speech on the Ellipse tonight. The ask last week was for around 20,000 people. (h/t @HallieOnNBC)

VP Harris will do five interviews today ahead of her Ellipse speech, per campaign: four battleground state TV interviews to reach voters in Detroit, Milwaukee, Philadelphia & Pittsburgh, plus a Spanish radio interview with Rumba in PA to reach Latinos, including Puerto Ricans.

DC police Chief expects more than 50K people tonight for VP Harris event on Ellipse. New permit estimates 40,000 MPD says additional overflow crowd expected at Washington monument @nbcwashington

*updated application to accomodate 52k:

The site for Harris' rally is The Ellipse, sometimes referred to as President's Park South. It's a 52-acre park south of the White House fence and north of Constitution Avenue & the National Mall in Washington, DC.

You can see in this photo that the park is indeed in the shape of an ellipse. The White House is visible through trees.

The scene in advance of tonight’s Kamala Harris rally on the Ellipse near the White House. I saw big crowds waiting to go through security & get in. Per the latest permit, she’s scheduled to speak at 8:15...

I have always been a "worst case scenario" worrywart, it did not start with Harris. Every time she does something like this, I am excited and happy about it but I have to admit a part of me just wants it to be over, with her safe and sound.

Walking along the east side of the Ellipse ahead of VP Harris’ closing argument speech this evening. Doors for the main spectator area were meant to open around 3p — lines stretch for what seems like at least a mile down the block. Event isn’t scheduled to begin until 7.

Christopher Wiggins @CWNewser
Tens of thousands of people are lined up for Vice President Kamala Harris’s Ellipse speech that begins at 7:30 tonight.

The gates haven’t opened yet, not even for press.
