To hell with Trump's voters - A most righteous rant

I have heard way more than enough of this grotesque garbage that perhaps we should try to understand what makes the Trump voter tick, and somehow sympathize with their support of an unapologetic loudmouth who is so vile he sees “good people” on both sides of a violent white supremacist rally. Have you seen or heard any of this crap?
Have you seen or heard this heated drivel that Kamala Harris and other Democrats have done an inadequate job of connecting with Trump voters who see nothing dangerous about a man who refers to human beings as “vermin,” and has adopted Adolph Hitler’s talking points at his odious campaign rallies? Have you seen or heard this absolute low-grade nonsense that we should work to lower the temperature in this country, and maybe not take it so personally when one party has gone completely in the tank for a hideous man who told the people who attacked America on January 6, 2021 that he “loves them?” It is deplorable, and I’m here to remind you it is not normal.

These Trump supporters are shattered people, who have proven only one thing the past eight years: They can ALWAYS go lower, even if it means diving into the dumpster themselves to prove that they truly do believe in their lower cause.
Do not allow yourselves to be gaslit during this the most important election since the Civil War. Understand: If you support the Democratic Party, it does not make you perfect, but is does put you squarely on the right side of human decency and history.
This not only needs to be said out loud, and over and over again, but SHOUTED, because if you are telling me you support the despicable Donald Trump, you have essentially told me everything I need to know about you.

SNIP-----------

You want everything done for you and handed to you on a silver platter, because despite your despicable selves, you somehow think you are owed everything simply because of the color of your lily-white skin.
In fact, you are racist as hell, even if you’d like to somehow think you aren’t, because you lack the capacity to do even the minimal amount of introspection needed to attain the most basic understanding that in this country ALL men (and women) are supposed to be created equal.
You don’t believe in a better America, you believe in an America where you can legally drag good people through the dirt, who you still somehow think are lesser than you, and then have a good laugh about it.
You support the monstrous, orange man because he has given you license to be just as completely awful as you want to be. He brings out the very worst in you, and because you are weak in character, you somehow get off on it.
I will always blame the gross “leadership” in your broken party — 80 percent who know better — for the predicament we are in, as we fight tooth and nail to keep this anti-American loudmouth out of our White House, and preserve our republic.
How dare you put this on us, and threaten to end a country 250 years in the making so casually and pathetically.
And I will alway blame my former brethren in the bought-off, reprehensible corporate media for normalizing one of the worst people in world history. They have done catastrophic damage with their refusal to cover one of the biggest stories ever with the weight and vigor it deserves.
He will do everything he can to end us, and YOU know it, damn you.

But it is you, Trump voter, who I reserve the majority of my disdain. You have been coddled long enough in this country. You aren’t misunderstood. The truth is you have very effectively spent the past eight years making it crystal clear to anybody paying even the slightest amount of attention just how revolting and toxic you truly are.
I understand you all too well, and hope you all go straight to hell for the damage you have done to America, the majority of our people, and the brave souls who gave their lives defending her.

Trump is on his long walk to prison. He won't be a factor much longer. The real problem is the huge body of Trump voters. They aren't going anywhere, unfortunately.

it’s just about time for our military to give them one. Burning ballot drop boxes is a continuing war upon the U.S. that started on January 6, 2021.

Everything Trump says is projection. When he talks about the enemy from within he is talking about himself and his followers. They are the enemy from within. They believe in nothing and want to tear everything down regardless of the consequences.

In the past, I’ve likened them to termites chewing away at the support structure of our democracy.

But “enemy from within” works fairly well.

I’m not sure how we get out of this at this point. There’s an entire industry that thrives on hate and dissension. Alex Jones got wealthy doing it and so did Rush Limbaugh and quite a few others. Steve Bannon has made it his entire career at this point.

When we win they are going to claim that the election was stolen. You know that they will.

At point I don’t see where this ends. We are now a nation that is almost ungovernable and there is just a shy of a majority of people who thinks that all elections are stolen unless they win them and everything is corrupt unless it benefits them.

Talk about the me generation. Who knew that there were this many narcissists In the country?

We have been talking about the election and they are well aware that he is a nightmare with hateful supporters. I had to take them to the home of one of the other host families and when we pulled up, my student said , “oh no” and pointed out signs in the front yard.
Good god! The host mother is disabled, hosts Japanese students, has a live in home health aid from Africa. She is supporting this monster in a man shape who scoffs at her very existence. I don’t understand my hesitancy to point this out to her. I think I will ask her. Because she may as well have had a sign in her yard proclaiming, “I’m a stupid asshole” because that’s how it reads to me

The international community can’t believe that this is what we’ve come to.

One caveat- Once Obama replaced “Shrub”, things returned to ‘normal’ pretty quickly.

so they go to churches with rigid rules, especially for women. They love blustering and dictatorial politicians. They bully their children.

They loathe science, which changes too much. They think following a set of rules is essential to get through life, many of those rules laid down by ignorant Bronze Age priests. They think too much freedom is tearing this country apart.

This shit is all hard wired. There is nothing much we can do about these people except be grateful not to be one of them.

And if we don't outvote them, we'll get another in a long string of appallingly bad presidents.

We outvoted them in 2020 and it made them worse and a lot of them have gone to jail and/or paid large fines for it.

Eventually they get sick of losing at politics and retreat back into the safety and predictability of religion.

Remember, they're all coming down after their Millennial Fever bad acid trip. It's going to take a while. Jebus failed to come back--AGAIN-and the world failed to end--AGAIN and that's even worse than getting another drubbing in politics. Plus, getting what they thought they wanted, the overturn of Roe, is only doing what we said it would and making the rest of us mad as hell. That's having an effect, also, since the only place that tells them they're right about that along with everything else is church.

I first started to hear eschatological nonsense coming from wingnut churches and tent meetings in the south in the 1960s. The rise of televangelism along with Reagan coming along and introducing those pompadoured frauds to politics are what's giving us the massive hangover now. I don't expect it to las more than another two decades, at the very most.

Remember, the pursuit of political power is a worldly pursuit. Eventually that will dawn on those folks again.

There are ignorant, bigoted, mean people everywhere and always have been. There have always been people who live their lives in fear and there have always been people who will take advantage of those fearful individuals.

I grew up in a Republican family. My parents were solid Republicans. My mother had a framed photo of Reagan hanging on her kitchen wall. My brother is a solid Republican: he only cares about money and how much is left in his pocket after taxes. My parents are dead and I no longer speak to my brother, but his political views really only reflect his core values, which I do not share and do not respect.
When Trump first ran in 2016, I broke contact with a number of casual friends because of their support for Trump. I could not understand how they could possibly support someone like him. Whether any of them have changed their view--and their vote--in the last few years, I don't know. I can only hope that at least some of the women will.
I do believe Harris will win and it won't be close. Fuck Trump, fuck his supporters and enablers. The man belongs in prison and we will be a better country when he is removed from the scene, whether by the voters and the legal system or the grim reaper. And the damn MAGATS can crawl back under their rocks, too.

I was prepared to examine my own beliefs, to ask in fact whether the people on the other side of the aisle were just misunderstood in our culture.

By 2020, it had become obvious to me that no, these were not simply salt of the earth people. Some were, sure, but more weren't, and what was worse, the ones who were seemed to morph by exposure to become more bigoted, more judgmental, more narcissistic. The vast majority of the people who supported Trump, however, became, to put it bluntly, jerks if they weren't already. They were people who would screw you over, gleefully, because you didn't belong to their secret tribe, didn't know the magic handshake. They were bullies and thugs, queen bees and gossips, misers and charlatans. It was as if they had been infected by a virus that turned them from decent human beings into troglodytes, and worse, they expected your adulation and understanding even when they did nothing but heap scorn and vileness on everyone around them.

MAGA is a cult. It has all the characteristics of one:
* A charismatic leader or prophet, usually one who emphasizes himself as a hypermasculine ideal - wealthy, powerful, handsome, successful, blessed by the divine
* The elect - those who are racially pure, well-to-do, but not necessarily wealthy, usually male, always subserviant to the prophet but typically with control over others in a hierarchy. Their reward may be spiritual in the end, but the immediate reward is power in the hear and now.
* A creed or code - Project 2025 will do as well as any
* Enemies - the libruls, intellectuals, scientists, experts of any sort, the effete cosmopolitan, City dwellers
* Others - Anyone who isn't white, unless they are part of the elect. Even then they are suspect.
* Misogyny - there may be women in the cult, but they have to be subservient to men in all things. Their primary role is breeders of the next generation of the elect. Trump doesn't necessarily espouse this, but this is Vance all over.
* Controlled media - Members only see and hear the side fo the story that is complementary to the leader or the cult. This serves the role of brain washing.
* The grift - What's yours is mine. What's mine is mine. Here, by some more Trump tschotskies.
* Loyalty Oaths - Those who are not loyal are punished, sometimes terminally.
* The Big Lie (Holy Writ) - Conspiracy theories, the Illuminati, QAnon. The more outrageous the better, because they support the Big Lie.

The challenge that we face is that the only way to shut down a cult is to neutralize the leader and his lieutenants, then to deprogram the followers. This can be a long, painful, and complicated task, because most people, once they have accepted the central premise of the cult, usually lose the ability to think critically (many never had it in the first place). Those who came to the cult late enough, who still had a certain degree of skepticism, are usually the easiest, but the ones who have been enthralled the longest will only really get past it by finally recognizing what had been done to them. Some never do.

I don't necessarily consider Republicans by themselves as cult members - I think many who were already suspicious to begin with followed Trump because of either peer pressure or fear - but others are going to be a lot harder to bring back to reason.
