(54 posts)Wife and I voted by mail at the beginning of the month. We are in Southern California and all voters receive mail-in ballots with postage-paid envelopes. We got them on a Friday, sat down with our progressive voter guides to help us with judges and ballot propositions, and filled them out together. We put them in Saturdays mail, and we received text messages both when USPS had scanned them into their system and again when the county registrar had received and accepted them (which was maybe Monday or Tuesday). It was really quick and easy, and while I miss going to my polling place and feeling the energy there on Election Day, there is something to be said for being able to research the local candidates and ballot propositions as you are filling out the ballot.
Our region is usually about 2:1 D:R, or maybe 70/30 in a good year, so it will be interesting to see how it goes this time around.

(1,876 posts)I think it's very possible. Broward is carrying FL on its back. We've almost doubled the Republican vote here. Miami-Dade and Palm Beach Counties have more registered Dems than Rep yet so far more Republicans have voted than Democrats. We'll receive some crossover votes as well. GOTV efforts will be crucial here in FL.

This is a purple city in a red, rural county. For a couple positions, there was no Dem candidate. The Rs ran uncontested. I left them blank. Need to speak with local Dem officials about the lack of opposition.
Sometimes in NY, since the Dem presidential candidate will win, it seems like missing the vote would not matter. But if everyone thought that way, we would lose. Besides, the down ticket choices matter.
There was one state proposition to vote yes or no on full equality for everyone regardless of age, gender status, race, ethnicity, permission, abortion, etc. A yes vote means that the full equality will be incorporated into the state constitution. Of course I voted yes.

Dropped off our ballots in the drop-box at the local public library. Took a selfie of the act. I have since found out that the county registrar of voters has received our ballots, and that they have been verified and counted.

(35,692 posts)and the rest of the Democratic slate - as well as yet another anti-gerrymandering issue. (There have been two, and I believe 7 maps declared unconstitutional under the last two. We keep trying, but with a Republican Supreme Court, absent the Republican justice who voted with the Dems as to the maps - who has now retired, whatever crazy maps get drawn will be declared constitutional. The retired justice headed the committee for our third anti-gerrymandering ballot issue . . . )
All three of us in my house have voted. 50 votes for Democratic candidates (in total) and one for a Republican (Straight Democratic ticket for my daughter and me; I couldn't convince my spouse not to vote for her buddy - an objectively good Republican judge in a relatively politically innocuous court).

(2,874 posts)I mailed it on Friday, October 27th and received a notification on October 28th that my ballot had been accepted and counted.
In years past, I had put it in the secure drop box at my local branch of the county library. However, I had read the post on DU about the ballot drop box in Arizona getting torched, and also that messages had been shared on $hitter that various liquids that could spoil ballots were discussed, so I decided to take it inside at the post office.
And then there were attacks on ballot boxes in Washington and Oregon. So, I am super glad that I decided to take my ballot directly to the post office.
Thank you, DU!
Wishing everyone safety and the best of luck in voting.

(3,522 posts)My daughter and daughter in law took me to vote with them. It was crowded but moved right through. Halls were dimly lit so I couldn't really see who else was voting. Usually when we go to early vote there's very few people there. Kenosha used to be heavy Democratic UAW voters but since Crysler moved out and the mega churches moved in Kenosha has become a huge disappointment to me. A lot of tgmorant people who seem proud to be that way. It's hard to say how well go. The liberals in town seem to have learned their lesson and have shown up since 2016 at every election so maybe.
And if it rains election day as predicted I think the magats will not bother thinking that Trump has it in the bag. They'll go and play pool at the bar instead.

(3,897 posts)I was surprised that there was a line from the side entrance of the polling place along the side wall and around the front of the building. Voting had started there about an hour earlier.
I've been a poll observer at that site 3 or 4 times before last Sunday, and have not seen as consistent a line as was there that day. It moved pretty quickly, though. The wait was 15 minutes to get in the door. It went by quickly because I was talking with candidates and greeters, there is a positive feeling in the air. The line to vote is a positive sign. Since then, I have done 3 more shifts as poll observer and the turnout remains steady. I will be a poll observer for my home precinct on election day, 6:30 AM through 10:30 AM.

(24,372 posts)It was weird, there were no Repug signs or sign wavers like there usually are. There were Dem signs and Dem sign wavers, but only 1 Repug had any signs at all and it was a local race. There was not one tcf sign, not a single one. Usually it's about even with signs, even in this purple trending blue city, but not this time. Also, other than my husband and son, there was only one other man voting, but probably 8 women. My sons' vote was flipped to tcf by the machine, but he saw that and fixed it and verified on the recpt that his vote was for Harris. That concerns me a bit, what if folks don't pay attention? Otherwise, it was no waiting and no problem people there.
