That Trump might win again. I dont want to be deported nor lose my healthcare, cause its keeping me alive, Trump could change all that and if my Social Security is gone and everything else I could be homeless and than I would be dead. Please KAMALA bring in a blue Tsunami!!!

(60,887 posts)I live on my Social Security and depend on VA for my medical care. They could be on the hit parade as well if the Project 2025 bros take over.
But I've been focusing on the positive signs this last week. I think we are going to be OK.
Please hang in there. We're all in the same boat.
definitely in this boat. tsf will betray the old folks and vets..... social security and the VA only thing keeping me alive. If he wins I will start smoking my pipe again first thing cuz why the hell not.
Nothing will matter. No quarter will be given.
I will be eighty day after election..... a life sentence to me is a trifle. Kinda like a misdemeanor.

(30,438 posts)and I also think there will end up being a lot of new women voters this year giving even more breathing room. Harris has higher likability, is raising a lot more money and I just don't see how Trump has expanded his voter reach and has probably shrunk it. Their plan to get more young men to vote seems pretty dumb as it's pissing women off who are a larger and more consistent voting block and young men just aren't going to come out and they tend to be more liberal so Trump may be pushing more liberal males to vote for Harris than before.

(35,692 posts)I've been throwing cold water on all of the "the first thing President Harris should do . . . " posts as well as on those touting her being ahead in national polls. And I'm the first to remind people about 2016, when our over-confidence contributed to Trump being elected.
But even though I still expect this to be a nail biter, the direction of the polling trends gives me hope - as do the repeated racist/bigoted/autocratic comments made by Trump or his surrogates - which seem to be swaying undecided voters to Harris.
No one in my immediate family will be deported - but my daughter could well be without health insurance for her $200,000/year in medical bills. So I feel your fear. It is a terror I lived with each time there was yet another challenge to the ACA. Crossing my fingers for Tuesday (and working the hotline, and doing voter protection work).

(56,934 posts)When I moved my residence to Germany, I was 59. I was quoted 30,000 a year ($36,000 at the time) for health insurance. I have an American employer, so no German health insurance covered me. To get German residence, you have to show proof of health insurance. Ironically, when I showed them my useless Blue Cross of Texas health insurance provided by my employer, they accepted it as proof that I had Health Insurance.
I still get comments of protest from the everything-is-free-in-Europe crowd, but most of them now know better. Maybe everything is free in the Peoples Republic of Sanderstan, but here in the real world, its not.

But they cannot control us. This is way different from 2016. Feels like 2008, when we elected President Obama, he was full of hope, and so is VP Harris and Gov Walz. I think we have been hated on enough.

(212 posts)As of this evening 20% or 733,000 of early voters did not vote in the 2020 election. 264,000 of these new voters were between the ages of 18 to 29, which favor VP Harris. Also 56% of all early voters were female. Early voting is now over in the state so we really need to push our people out on Tuesday. Since Georgia will have all early votes tabulated by 8 p.m. Tuesday, we should know the outcome sometime that night. I'm feeling good about my state right now.

(4,562 posts)We are many, and we a community. We may not agree on everything (or maybe we do), but progressives are a community, and you are not alone. We are with you.
Do not let anyone shame you for being afraid. If you were not afraid, you would be foolish; being afraid means that you are not foolish. You are intelligent.
None of what I am saying here is a statement about who I think will win; this is a statement about the reality of chance vs proportion.
If there was a 1% chance that an extinction event asteroid was going to hit the Earth tomorrow, everyone on Earth would be afraid. Another Trump presidency is an extinction event for the American experiment, and so everyone who loves America should be afraid.
That said, do not let that far paralyze you; let it motivate you. This Tuesday may be the day our democracy falls off a precipice, but it might also be the day we pull it back from the brink, and we must fight to pull it back from that brink. We must fight to save it like our lives depend in it because in many cases, they do.
Fight with peace, with truth, and with light, but do not fight lightly.
And lastly, let me leave you with this one thought: nothing is forever. No matter how dark, no matter how bleak, everything is and has always been temporary when you allow it enough time.

(3,897 posts)If tsf gets in somehow, my life would become very bleak, at best. I rely on Social Security Retirement, and Medicare. I know that a good number of folks are in the same boat. It would be catastrophic for so many. How anyone could vote for him, it defies reason.

(54,931 posts)In 2016, I felt the same way; I don't feel that way this time. I am cautious, but I honestly feel the numbers have underestimated Harris, and if I may but on my tinfoil yarmulke, I think this was by design from the RIGHT. When Harris wins, and wins BIG, it will be their "proof" we cheated. They have sown the seeds of discontent and distrust in such a way, in their world it is always, "Head's we win, Tails you lose" and the right is so delusional, they can only see victory for their side.
It may be close in some places, but I do believe, and I hope I am right, of course, this will be a decisive nail in the coffin of MAGA.

(1,657 posts)The thought of Trump winning is terrifying. Every Trump touches dies, and I don't want American Democracy to be the next Trump victim.
That being said, I just finished my daily run and was shocked to see 6 Harris/Walz signs on my 3 mile run. One house had a huge Harris/Walz flag. I live in an extremely red area in CA. I would never ever have expected to see one Harris/Walz flag/sign let alone 6 (all different houses). Of course, there are more Trump/Vance signs/flags but not nearly as many as in 2016 and 2020.

(16,664 posts)I don't even think it will be close. Things are breaking the right way. There is a massive enthusiasm gap that is not captured by the polls (Dems are enthusiastic. Republicans are..not). And we have no idea how many stealth Republican votes for Harris there will be. I think if she gets 4-5% of them, Trumo is toast.
What worries me is what happens after it is clear Trump lost. Well, it will be clear to us. The right is already prepping their conspiracies and of course there has already been violence, so that part is scary. I just hope the Biden administration is ready.

Considering FDR put Japanese Americans in concentration camps, causing them to loose everything, for which they were never compensated, I can understand your paranoia.
