North Carolina reflection

As many of you know, my wife and I are here in NC from Seattle for the final days before the election. We chose NC because it so close here and at the time we needed to commit, that crazy idiot Mark Robinson was much closer in the polls to Josh Stein than now.

Our job today was to get out the vote. To canvas and identify Harris supporters and make sure they vote. So we were assigned to the Orange County Democratic Party to work with them. On our way day to brighten our day we caught a glimpse of four deer frolicking in some one's yard.

When we got there, it was amazing, a huge turn out. Lots of energy and lots of cheerful workers. Our first canvas we were matched up with a water engineer named Alan. It was a perfect match up. I am an immigrant and so is he, I have sung in the Vatican Boychoir and has sung in boychoirs and like me continues singing as an adult. We were sent into this very wooded area, lots of winding confusing roads. A very wealthy area of Carrboro NC. It was amazing, Out of 58 houses we only had one grumpy trump supporter. Other than that, every where we went, people were so kind. Even giving us water and snacks. It was really fun and a joy to be able to meet all these folks and to be able to have the ability to take part in history.

What gratified me coming back to report, was there were so many volunteers that they had to direct traffic to get us in and out. During lunch we got a pep talk from Henry Cisneros!! and then we were sent out again.

This time, we were sent to a poor area of Chapel Hill. Our team was led by a person who has a doctorate and works with polymer molicules. We also had an additional team member who flew in from California. This canvas had a very different feel. There were a few suspicious folks and some who looked like they were just surviving. Inspite of that, we were well recieved by so many folks.

I know this is a very liberal area, but even so, it surpasses 2016 and 2020 turnouts and enthusiasm. Once again, besides being of service to the campaign but the value of traveling not only here but all over, is the joy in meeting so many wonderful people. To learn about them, to laugh with them and revel in the commonality we have with one another!

I am weary and tired, with a sore back and feet, but it is a joyful and satisfied soreness. So it's onto to tomorrow. Mike C

I'm "next door" in Alamance County, at the other end of where you're at. Rural, hardly any Trump signs here this election cycle. One place down from me has a business and put several on their fence, but they're just going to have to accept a yoooooooge loss (you have to say that in Bernie's voice).

Enjoy the rest of your stay, and have a safe flight home!
