This morning as I head off to the polls (I didn't vote early because my regular polling station is literally across the street from me) I'm so proud to be a Democrat. I know enough to know that no candidate with a ghost of a chance of winning will ever agree 100% with my positions and priorities. Compromise is woven into the fabric of democracy.. That's OK, better some compromises than a Civil War. At a time when MAGA Republicans seemingly prefer a Civil War to compromise, Kamala has been a steady beacon of sanity, hope, compassion and competence.
She has become the standard bearer for the promise of America, a promise that I never stopped believing in, though my eyes have long been open to the horrors embedded in American history and the injustices still being perpetuated by some. I find her message to be pitch perfect. Now it is up to Americans to decide what type nation they believe in, what type nation their children will grow up in.
I long have blamed the media for the rise of Trump, for good reasons. The mainstream media still seems incapable of conveying the full truth about Trump, and what he represents, consistently. But at this point I can no longer blame the media if Trump wins. Enough of the unvarnished truth about Trump and his ilk has been revealed for anyone with eyes to see. It's all on us now, the people, the citizens of this great Republic.
If Kamala wins, and I think she will, we will have dodged another bullet. But the machine guns out there that have been spraying us with them will remain. I don't know what type of massive grass roots effort it will take to remedy that ugly truth, but we damn well better figure it out. Too many untested assumptions about Americans widespread love for democracy have proven hollow under stress.

(21,797 posts)In 2016 I had some real criticisms of the Hillary campaign. Biden ran a better campaign, but didn't close as strongly. Harris has run a near perfect campaign and her closing was stronger than anything I have seen and she goes into today with all the momentum that neither Hillary nor Joe had in 2016 or 2020.
I think there's a real chance this is over before midnight.

(25,290 posts)Even with the right-leaning MSM they couldn't nail her on anything, she made no mistakes, no gaffs.
I feel good for a victory, then we need to be ready to stop the steal.

(7,962 posts)Best run Presidential campaign I have seen in 50 plus years of following politics. And she and her team did it on incredibly short notice. Just amazing. Imagine what she will do as President.

(7,875 posts)Obama 08 and Clinton 92 were work of arts for sure, this one is right up there. Unlike BC and PBO, who ran against generally decent guys, our candidate this year is running against a vile, noxious pile of pond scum. We HAVE to win tonight, I can't fathom the alternative.
All the previous Republican front runners (McCain, Romney, Dole, etc) were half way decent human beings and nowhere near monsters like this current demon spawn.
We definitely have to win.

Victorious warriors win first and then go to war, while defeated warriors go to war first and then seek to win.
Taken from Sun Tzu.
Not bad for a doddering disarrayed mass of Democrats.

(66,534 posts)and Governor Walz conducted a whirlwind campaign and they didn't stop for a minute with wall to wall rallies.
They have our backs, we have theirs.

(9 posts)My wife and I were talking yesterday about how if Kamala/Walz don't win this, it will be through no fault of their own. They didn't let up for a minute. Spot on messaging. I can't believe they didn't lose their voices with all the rallies they were doing. When I hear undecideds calling in to C-SPAN complaining that we got stuck with two horrible choices, I want to pull my hair out. I wonder if they even listened to Kamala for 10 minutes. "Why must Kamala be flawless when Trump is lawless" I feel that Kamala/Walz have run about as flawless a campaign as any humans would be capable of.

(1,701 posts)She is a magnificent candidate, ran an amazing campaign--best in my recollection, and her opponent was a GD dumpster fire, that ran an absolute garbage fire of a campaign, and it's still close enough that we're biting our fingernails on election day.
Why do Democrats have such a huge disadvantage? Why do we have to work twice as hard, be twice as flawless, and STILL only barely win?
That's just ridiculous, and makes me sad and mad. (But glad of Kamala!)
I hope 8 years of Harris/Walz can start to turn this around.
