It's been 40 years since it happened, when Reagan beat Mondale by 18.2%. Why doesn't it happen anymore? Will it ever happen again?

(2,351 posts)The US goes through periods of polarization and depolarization. I think we're just past the point of maximum polarization and are beginning to shift in the other direction.

(28,834 posts)It probably won't happen again without a seismic shift in the political landscape. As long as greed, power, and bigotry are the purview of half the country, the status quo will remain.
