When we get through this we need to address the electoral college. This election should never have been close and it only is because of this archaic and anti-democratic system.

Even if we weren't using the EC, this election would have been close all along. The poll aggregates have it essentially tied.
It would be ironic if Harris wins the EC, but loses the popular vote, though I don't expect that to happen.

(28,835 posts)Not enough votes in Congress, and Republican legislatures in the states have no reason to agree to the change because it gives them an inherent advantage.

(2,176 posts)The polls are close because some of them are blatantly skewed towards the GOP, while others are not accurate simply because too many people are afraid to give honest answers to someone who knows their name and (likely) knows where they live.
I suspect that a lot of people are worried about being labeled as one of the “enemy within” if dump gets elected again. I would lie to some random pollster if it meant protecting myself and my family.

(22 posts)Simply because republicans know they will NEVER EVER win a presidential election on popular vote.
Secondly, the idea of the smaller states not having a strong enough weight will be the constitutional challenge

(28,835 posts)There's very little that's democratic about the presidential election process. It was never meant to be democratic.
We don't even vote for the candidates, we vote for electors who represent us in the process. Except where prohibited by state law, they can even be faithless electors and ignore our will altogether.
Posts like this are great for likes on Twitter and recs here, but without real solutions, they're meaningless. Rah, rah, get rid of the EC.
Fine, how?
