can vote for a felon, adjudicated rapist, and person of despicable character, who already fucked our country in office and afterward, to hold the highest office in the land. This is the twilight zone. Even if Harris wins - how is he getting this much support? Stupidity, cult following, meidia propping, all the shit adds to this disgrace.

(2,821 posts)We have a gun nut living very nearby. I had already decided where to hide my laptop if he broke in to see if we were Dems (under the litter box). But hey, if they win, maybe they will be less likely to want to shoot us.
I'm very depressed right now. This is feeling like 2016, when I kept hopefully checking but finally it was clear he had won. And this is FAR worse. We won't have trump now, we will have Vance, and he is even more hate-filled and insane.

(1,900 posts)... that "hate" someone for having something they don't have, or people who hate you because you can do something they can't do. I've dealt with the second one all my life.
They are weak, selfish people who are congenitally incapable of dealing with abstractions, like "other people". Millions were brought up to "Never explain, never apologize, and never admit you're wrong," "Nice guys finish last," and this gem, "It's their own fault for trusting me!"
For six decades, my hatred of the Republican Party has burned hotter than the surface of the Sun. But now, it has gone supernova.

I have been sick, but kinda wanted to be disbelieving about the 'it's close' mantra broadcast during the run up to tonight - wanted to think it was corporate BS - but alas - it truly is a land of idiocracy! I certainly hope Harris wins and restore my faith that we at least have a majority ( or EC majority, i guess) of decency in this country.

(49,929 posts)There are states (as well as some people) that are off limits for me because of their support for such a vile, immoral man. It is not Trump who bothers me, it is the people who support his ignorant ass. I've known nasty people in my life, but no one really liked them and certainly wouldn't vote for them.
There is a disease in this country and I'm afraid it will be with us for a long time.

(3,144 posts)They hate all that is good. We're trying to bring the country into the 21st century; they want to take it back to the 15th.
Unless we can govern them with an iron hand (the only way they know), I don't see how we can live together.

(597 posts)1. People can't read. Every day I see high school students who are reading on a 3rd-4th grade level.
2. People are not taught problem-solving or actual critical thinking.
3. Post-Secondary school is getting further and further out of reach for anyone but the wealthy.

(2,840 posts)Education is the key to everything. Remember, TSF said he loved uneducated consitituents (or course he does).
This country does not prioritize or fund education as it should, and this is the damn result. Great for the controlling oligarchy, isn't it!
How can we expect people to know when they are being bamboozled by Fux, etc. when they do not know how things work, can't research for themselves and think for themselves, and are so busy trying to make ends meet they have little time or interest in trying to understand how all shit works together. Just go for the big sideshow.
Oh - and TSF and P25 friends would not be bolstering education - of course.

(2,747 posts)...starting with The Twilight of American Culture, written in the late '90s. Berman predicted a lot of what we're now seeing almost three decades ago. Another (much older) classic I recommend is Erich Fromm's Escape From Freedom (1941), which helps explain some of the inscrutable behavior we've witnessed from the MAGA chuds in the recent past.
You can find Berman's blog at: https://morrisberman.substack.com
