"SNIP..........
Susan Glasser: Electing Donald J. Trump once could be dismissed as a fluke, an aberration, a terrible mistakea consequential one, to be sure, yet still fundamentally an error.
But America has now twice elected him as its President. It is a disastrous revelation about what the United States really is, as opposed to the country that so many hoped that it could be.
His victory was a worst-case scenariothat a convicted felon, a chronic liar who mismanaged a deadly once-in-a-century pandemic, who tried to overturn the last election and unleashed a violent mob on the nations Capitol, who calls America a garbage can for the world, and who threatens retribution against his political enemies could winand yet, in the early morning hours of Wednesday, it happened.

No it is not his policy or his characteristics people are voting for. It is his charisma. The difference between charm and charisma is that if you are charismatic "you come to me". If you are charming "I go to you". Kamala is charming. Trump is charismatic and he can get people to do things as "they go to him" and vote. It is not the policies or character. It is the charisma that makes people vote for him. When he is gone, politicians like JD Vance or DeSantis will not be able to keep the band together.

(59,933 posts)By the time Vance and DeSantis rise to power, voting will no longer matter.
Putin showed them how to rig the polls and provide the propaganda.

(663 posts)And Volodymyr Zelenskyy must be horrified.
Now the fascists have the presidency, SCOTUS, the U.S. Senate, and possibly the U.S. House.
Truly voting will no longer matter. But if Trump stole this election in a way that we haven't been able to figure out, then voting didn't even matter this time.

(25,450 posts)I used to believe that Merrick Garland was afraid of TSF, I now believe he is complicit.
The SOS of Corarado was on TV a couple of days crying for help. She said that DOJ has prosecuted 20 threats to election workers since 2020.
Merrick Did nothing to Leon Musk who ran a pay to register Magats scam.
Merrick Garland and his Federalist Society pal Chris Wray, never went near Leon Musk after foreign officials informed us about Musk's communications with Putin. Must has a freaking top security clearance.
Merrick Garland went no where near TSF after it was learned that he has been communicating with Putin.
Merrick Garland is at the top of my list as to why TSF won the election.

(59,933 posts)They have not yet realized the full implications of what happened last night.
And now it is too late to do anything about it.
Yes of course Garland was in on this from the beginning.
Some of us tried to warn everyone and got posts deleted.
Yes of course Garland is one of the major players in the scheme as is Wray.
I am out of Effs to give so just going to tell the truth.
If people don't want to hear that is on them.
Their loss.

(4,893 posts)Vance won't have to keep the band together. Fox News will. Once he uses amendment 25 and retires Trump, then Fox News and all of that propaganda infrastructure will paint him as Trump's disciple in spirit and policy. And since he's Peter Thiel's creature, he'll have unlimited election funds from techbro billionaires. By the time 2028 rolls around, he'll have 2 40-something fascists in the Supreme Court to replace Alito and Thomas, and will probably have the 3 remaining liberal justices arrested and removed. Remember, he'll have immunity. He'll also probably have the techbros construct "TruVote" voting machines or something like that, put them everywhere, and get re-elected in a "landslide" in 2032. Those same voting machines will get used to rewrite the Constitution how they like it, and we'll be Russia 2.0.
My only consolation is that they'll declare climate change a hoax and they will burn with most of the life on the planet within a generation. They won't get their thousand year reich.

(4,893 posts)I was driving in to work today and started to wonder how I could survive 4 more years of MAGA. Then I realized that surviving MAGA is going to be a lifetime project.
