I live in WA. Were not just blue but damned blue. And though theres a significant red population its in less populated areas. The state and local elections and initiatives reflect an absolute rejection of dumbasss intentions.
There are local representatives and the mayor loudly rejecting and correcting dumbasss depiction of Seattle as a wasteland. Its actually thriving post-Covid shutdowns. There are big fears about the national fiats dumbass plans but weve got large regional advantages that might carry us through.
I write this not to gloat but to ask, no matter where you are what do you have that gives you hope you can make it through the FO part of FAFO for dumbass and his minions? Did I mention hes a dumbass?

(6,357 posts)We do live in a nicely blue area and can just ignore the eastern part of the state totally, in fact I wish they would just joint Idaho it would make a great match.
We have the great Bob Ferguson as our next governor with Dems all down the line.
Crushing all the anti environmental ballot issues into the dirt

(43,298 posts)Eastern WA is important but its more land, less population. At least the wine industry will swing blue. 😄
Eastern WA is important, I live there. I like that the population is low, though a lot of people are moving over here from the other side of the mountains.

(4,354 posts)and let me add I'm Canadian and have lived here with my family for over 25 years and when my Canadian mates start giving me grief about living in the States and asshole elected I tell them that living here in Western Washington is about as close as it comes to living in Canada as it gets here. More liberal, more accepting, etc etc. Great health care options all over the place.
Yeah we have the same issues as other cities, here and in Canada, but this is as safe as I feel as I would living back home.
All that said, if shit gets too real, I do have options to move back. But despite that it won't be easy. Canada is struggling, with the same issues, plus others. Healthcare in Canada needs a right proper overhaul to say the least. The impending downfall of Trudeau and the very real chance that Pierre Poilievre(Cdn version of trump) could be our next PM scares the hell out of me.

(6,133 posts)This was a conscious choice for my wife and I. She grew up in Missouri, I grew up in Arizona, and we spent 23 years of our lives in Texas, which became increasingly intolerable, even in Houston. And in spite of all of the bashing we get, there is a stream of people from Texas moving up this way. Well we have better wages and job growth for one thing. We have freedom for another. And down the hall in my building, one of our new neighbors is a Palestinian, a medical doctor originally from the West Bank, who is a gynecologist, top rated, from Baylor medical school. He is part of a whole practice that has come here from Texas.

(2,675 posts)In western WA (where I live) of doing some claw-back of all that red county welfare we send as most of those counties do basically nothing for themselves but sit on their fat asses. Some are a real mixture but very productive- kind of a mixture, and need a bit for the gaps. But some won't even fix their own damn roads. They're welcome to join Idaho.

(1,134 posts)I so appreciate being in a blue state. It is tough being in a red county but there is also a strong Democratic presence. We all co-exist peacefully, which is all you can ask for in this day and age.

(14,689 posts)I have family there now, my son and family moved there a few years ago. But now I'm way too old and we're not working. We've got some pretty good equity in our house, but not enough to afford the real estate in Seattle and move all our stuff.
I've loved Seattle since attending the Worlds Fair in 1962. It's a lovely area, I was just up almost a year ago now. But it is so far from here.

(121,646 posts)We still have Tim Walz - I'm sorry about the circumstances of getting him back, but I'm glad he'll be with us. We have laws protecting women's reproductive rights; we're a safe haven for trans people; all of our kids get free school lunches; we don't have lunatics censoring school libraries. Minnesota was the first state in the midwest to legalize same-sex marriage and the first state to reject a constitutional amendment to ban it. And we haven't voted for a GOP presidential candidate in 52 years. It's true that there are parts of the state that are basically Alabama but cold, and we have a ways to go to get the Minneapolis Police Department to stop being racist assholes, overall it's a good place to live, especially if you stick to the cities.

(121,646 posts)State income tax and state and city sales taxes are higher than average, which causes whining among the GOP at the legislature, but you get what you pay for - good schools, decent state services, etc. My former employer merged with a bigger company headquartered in Atlanta, and I could have kept my job if I'd taken the transfer, but I chose early retirement rather than leave Minnesota. I like it here a lot.

Texas had a democratic governor before Bush. It was Ann Richards. She was great, but it's gone down hill since.
I'm serious about moving and I'm doing my homework before I make a rash decision. I've actually been looking at Vermont. I'm a writer and I need a place that will inspire me. Texas is not it.

(18,967 posts)her hubby turned into a Trumper. But she loves him, but furious when he voted for drumphf. Don't know how she's doing bc of a problem with FB, once I get back on I'll find out. She said in 2020 re Biden's election - I'd go dance in my yard but I might get shot.
I'm sure she's not a happy camper right now.
Her family's got ties to TX going many generations back. I don't think she'd ever leave. Her husband wouldn't.
I have a acquaintence in the Orlando area. Again, liberal who's very good friends w my TX friend.

(1,834 posts)Seeing how other states shifted red so much this year, we need to avoid getting complacent. I know that the state Repug party is pretty busted, but you never know when they may get smart. Our whole open primary makes us vulnerable for dividing our votes. The whole public lands commissioner primary had me super nervous.

I think Trumpers in Manhattan are more scattered than in any other of the 4 Burroughs.
I love my city. The mix of people, art, crafts, arcitecture, restaurants, parks, and Botanic Gardens, museums, live music, libraries, fashion, fascinating stores even if I can't buy much, big free events. A walker's city.
The beauty of the Hudson River, and our big northern most Manhattan parks of Ft Tryon, and Inwood. Believe it or not we can see egrets, herons, red tail hawks up in Inwood's shoreline. Supposedly owls. Of course, mallard ducks. Raccoons. My sis recently saw a ?woodchuck (not sure) but definitely an animal not seen before by her living there for decades.
A shout out to Propect Park in Brooklyn.
