U.S. Rep. Rashida Tlaib reelected to represent Michigan's 12th Congressional District

Incumbent U.S. Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Detroit, won reelection to serve another two-year term representing Michigan's 12th Congressional District.

Based on an estimated 80% of the vote counted, Tlaib, a Democrat, received 70%, while her Republican challenger, James Hooper, received 26%. That's based on unofficial results compiled by The Associated Press, which called the race at 11:41 p.m.

Hooper describes himself on his campaign website as an abortion rights opponent and "Liberty Minded Conservative Republican" and "Unapologetically a Conservative Christian Believer." He was one of the plaintiffs in a conspiracy-laden lawsuit to overturn the 2020 election in Michigan.

Tlaib faced no opponent in Michigan's August primary election. The district she represents includes part of Detroit's west side and part of Dearborn Heights, along with all of Dearborn, Garden City, Inkster, Lathrup Village, Livonia, Redford Township, Southfield, Southfield Township and Westland.

Wayne County votes for Biden in 2020 were 587,074

Wayne County votes for Harris in 2024 with 99% of precincts reporting is 536,581.

So closer to a 45K difference once the final votes are in. That's not enough to flip the state which she lost by about 80K.

Sorry to be pedantic but I think we need to be clear about the facts here. And even if Harris had won Michigan, she would have still lost the other six swing states and the race.

I misread the 2024 summary report and mistook the straight party vote figure for President.

Thank You.

I am not thrilled by some members of the Arab-American community right now.

What happened, of course, was the upset victory by the man about whom she famously cried, "IMPEACH THE MOTHERF**KER!!!"
