The billionaire ruling class's greatest fear is that the people they are screwing over suddenly realize they are being screwed over and rise up against them. Hence, the trillion-dollar marketing scheme to brainwash Republican voters and divide our citizens and make us hate each other and blame each other and not the billionaires who are truly to blame. And, of course, this is also why autocrats from Putin to Xi to our very own Trump do everything they can to destroy the free press.
We Democrats figured this out a long time ago. But Repub voters are still in the dark. How do we enlighten them?
I urge everyone here to google "Underground Media During World War 2" to get ideas of how we can each start disseminating our own truthful counter-propaganda in our own communities to try to give our brainwashed Repub neighbors the information that they will never, ever hear on Fox News, OAN, rightwing radio and social media, etc.
Our counter-propaganda already started during the election when women started posting sticky-notes in women's bathroom stalls to let women know there vote was private.. How about, for example, printing off some copies of Kareem Abdul Jabbar reaction to Mango Mussolini's reelection that someone posted here today and leaving them wherever we can?
I know this is tantamount to a guppy fending off a shark attack, but if enough of us guppies make these small acts of resistance (and large acts whenever we can), it might make a difference.

(1,077 posts)H.L. Hunt, J. Paul Getty, Howard Hughes, and Ross Perot. That was it, and it was worldwide. You could actually name them. There were only a couple of others previously who were also billionaires, Rockefeller and Ford. That is how rare it was. Of course, those people didn't just have paper wealth like today but real wealth.
There shouldn't be billionaires in the first place.

(2,250 posts)(1) brainwashing half of all Americans to vote against their own interests;
(2) training half of all Americans to believe everything that Trump and his minions say while discounting anything that tells the truth about Trump as "fake news";
(3) passing Citizen's United, thereby allowing unlimited dark money and foreign money to finance their campaigns;
(4) overturning the Fairness Doctrine, thereby allowing the rise of actors like Rush Limbaugh and Joe Rogan, as well as Fox News, Oan, Newsmax and 1,500 radical rightwing radio stations;
(5) getting a majority of six Republican Supreme Court justices, which they will maintain for a generation once Trump appoints justices to replace Thomas and Alito and possibly Roberts.
We are so screwed unless and until we can get the Repub voters to see the truth OR Trump et al. screw up "bigly" and they turn against him.

(8,361 posts)Im technically a millionaire. I am well off, but Im not what I thought of as rich as I was growing up. I dont drive luxury cars. I dont own a house on the lake. The main benefit is that when I have an emergency or two, I dint have to go into debt to cover it. And Ill probably be able to actually retire some day.
There is a huge difference between $1M net worth and $10 million.
