(49,741 posts)This is an existential crisis that may require moving, for many people and families. All will want to lighten up, not burden themselves with more. The economy is maxed out, except for AI.

(1,697 posts)not enough. I want the women who wore pink hats on the Mall, the day after Trump's 2016 Inauguration there in all their glory on Inauguration Day 2025! With loudspeakers blasting "I am Woman"!
OR, every woman should inform HR that she has nine dependents, reducing federal income tax revenues by what--25-40% ?

(1,697 posts)Once I learned this above fact, my life improved dramatically!
So, read to the end!
Hit Donald and his MAGA GOONS in the wallet. Every democrat, male and female, should advise their HR bookkeeping department that they have NINE DEPENDENTS. The immediate drop in collected federal tax revenues is far more effective than boycotts and certainly easier to achieve.Place your extra cash on hand in short term C.D.'s, currently earning 4.5%, so, you are ready when tax time comes around, and you will make at least something for yourself.

I went to a Black Friday Sale about 25 years ago at a Walmart in South Louisiana to see what the fuss was all about. Scared the hell out of me. Never again.

(7,759 posts)Yes! I'm there! Bring on the black mantillas!
I have seriously considered hanging a black wreath on the front of our house where the Harris/Walz banner used to hang, and wearing a black armband. Even in the swimming pool!
(I just remembered being called to the principal's office in junior high when I wore my red SDS armband. Walking through the halls in my blue gym suit with that armband. Wow! That was buried in the back of some neurological filing cabinets.)

(50 posts)Do not go to work. I’ll be at work.
Do not buy anything / either in person or on/line. Zero clue. If someone in my family—to include my pets—requires something that day, I’ll buy it.
Do not purchase gas for days prior or after. I don’t understand this one. If I need gas I’ll buy it; if I don’t, I won’t.
Do not send your children to school. N/A
Do not watch the inauguration Not a chance I’ll be watching it.

Do not go to work-haven't worked since June since the entertainment industry has cratered
Do not buy anything / either in person or on/line-I won't
Do not purchase gas for days prior or after-OK
Do not send your children to school-no kids so this is the easiest one
Do not watch the inauguration-I might if I have ingested poison and need to vomit, but otherwise won't be watching

(1,806 posts)but people do "get sick". Can't imagine a day that will make me any sicker over the next couple months.
Unless it is a day to protest something that he actually DOES after taking office,
one might want to save their sick days for that....

(8,532 posts)If I have to work I can’t and if I don’t I will do something to have a happy day. Good luck if you do. We are not allowed to have any sort of political opinions or references at work now, we were already told several times if we do that we can be suspended
Jack Valentino
(1,806 posts)but I hear what you're saying.
If I was told all that by an employer, I would already be looking for another job. I hope you are.
Meowmee
(8,532 posts)I am old and this is the only job I can do now. I’m lucky to still have it- policies of the reign of terror which Democrats voted for put us in a very precarious situation. I’m not in good health either. My job is extremely stressful, especially now with everything that I have been through due to this country and the large number of fascist idiots here.
I have been thinking about retraining to do some thing that would make a lot more money for us and cause me less stress. However, I don’t know if it’s really possible due to all of my health issues and my age.
Also, I’m only allowed to take a very small number of days off and I don’t get paid after that.
Jack Valentino
(1,806 posts)If there is to be any 'work stoppage', we must depend on the young to do it--
Those who can more easily get another job, if that became necessary.

(5,273 posts)when I worked for the Social Security Administration there was NO political talk, signs, clothing, etc. allowed. Period. That's the way it should be.
Jack Valentino
(1,806 posts)The comment I was replying to did not indicate they worked for a government employer---
so I presumed they were "private sector"---
The rules for a private sector employer should be entirely the OPPOSITE-- in fact, there should not be any such rules.
"FREE SPEECH" and all that ???
The conditions and rules they described of their employment are entirely fascistic.
claudette
(5,273 posts)Maybe "no politics" should be suggested because it could cause hard feelings or disruptions in the workplace. It's understandable and I don't see it as offensive.
Jack Valentino
(1,806 posts)if you see what I mean?
claudette
(5,273 posts)exactly what you mean. I was only expressing my opinion. Personally, I would never discuss politics with my co-workers no matter if it was allowed or not.

(825 posts)On Mondays anyway, but I might watch a bit of the inauguration just so I can stick some sharp pins in a cute little orange haired doll with a diaper and some brown shit running down its leg, And one with a beard and blue eyes. I have no children to withhold from school, so that is irrelevant,

How about a Facebook LINK to this protest ??? That would be good.

(20 posts)As a person who is in line to be a real life victim of Project 2025, may I ask, if you are able, to make a small contribution to the ACLU to help those of us who are going to need their help going forward? I appreciate the effectiveness of a good protest but not sending your kids to school on what is a national holiday anyway seems a little hollow. I am frightened but am preparing for the worst. As a history professional, I know what the worst can be. I have always appreciated the wisdom I get from lurking on this page. It has informed a number of my views on matters in the public discourse. I thank you for your consideration.

(67 posts)If you can't do all of the actions, do as many as you can. If we all plan ahead and get the things we need in advance. we won't need to go to the store that day. I'm going to try for at least three days. Of course, if there is some kind of critical situation with a family member or pet that day, then it's understandable if you have to go get something.
If as many of us boycott as much as possible, it should have an effect on the greedy mfers and start off the new fascist administration with a flop, even if a small flop.
Thanks to the person who mentioned the progressiveshopper.com site for long term boycotting efforts.

(10,599 posts)I am going to endeavor to find out which are, and avoid patronizing them.
Instead of saying it's "punishing your children," why not make it a learning lesson in what this country has become, so they gain from the experience. Instill some civil dissent into them, because damn sure they're gonna need it.
Martin68
(25,409 posts)I don't understand what keeping children home from school would accomplish. MAGA is waging war on public schools, and the teachers who try to teach the truth to children, and the libraries that try to open their minds with good books.

Wear black - Easy enough to do
Do not go to work - DNA, I'm retired
Do not buy anything / either in person or on/line. - Doable
Do not purchase gas for days prior or after - Also doable
Do not send your children to school. - Another DNA, my only "child" is 39 years old lol
Do not watch the inauguration - Never planned to; wild horses couldn't make me (didn't watch the 1st one, either)
My participation would come down to wearing black, not buying stuff, and not watching something I wasn't going to watch anyway. (Also, if I'm not going to buy anything whatsoever, I might as well stay home. That means no one is going to see me, in which case, there doesn't seem to be much point in dressing all in black.)
If anyone else finds this meaningful, by all means, go for it! I'm not sure it would be worth it for me personally, but that's just me!
