FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell called the actions of the employee reprehensible and said they have been terminated from their role.
More than 22,000 FEMA employees every day adhere to FEMAs core values and are dedicated to helping people before, during and after disasters, often sacrificing time with their own families to help disaster survivors, Criswell wrote in a post on X before describing the employees actions. This is a clear violation of FEMAs core values & principles to help people regardless of their political affiliation.
This was reprehensible. I want to be clear to all of my employees and the American people, this type of behavior and action will not be tolerated at FEMA and we will hold people accountable if they violate these standards of conduct, she added.

(36,045 posts)Now I assume they were.
But I understood why the lapse was made: There was a long list of dos and donts for staff coming in to help offer help and pass along information to residents. All of the dos and donts dealt with staff safety, and this was when all the news was abuzz about threats towards FEMA staff.
Wrong, but understandably (because blinkers and myopic views of the "locals" so.
Giving a degree of insight into the "team" was not just recommending "water" but options such as "coconut water."

(1,275 posts)However, I am playing the devil's advocate--- I don't believe in 'making lists' either--
but this FEMA employee was only doing what they thought was the most effective response in an impossible situation--- since Trump & co was spreading the misinformation that if you accepted FEMA assistance, you would lose your home, among other incredible falsehoods--
if I were them, I probably would have skipped the Trump-sign houses too.
Let them "do their own research"
Jack Valentino
(1,275 posts)it was improper behavior for a FEMA employee. Full stop.
They just made the mistake of trying to prioritize assistance towards those
who were more likely to accept it...
