And 66 really isn't that old.
Stick around and be a thorn in the GOP's side!

(1,502 posts)America is easy to immigrate to, many other countries don't have the more lax immigration policies that we have.

(2,079 posts)I usually think long and hard about making any serious changes in my life (and I really mean a real long time)...
I mean I might move in ten years or so or I might think about it for another ten years (I've already been thinking about it for over twenty years)...
So it's not very likely that I'm going to be moving anywhere for a good long time...

(2,127 posts)It's not exactly cheap and most countries have even more difficult immigration processes in place than the US. Many of us do not have essential skills or the minimum savings required by other governments to emigrate. If we are flush on cash and have essential, desirable skills then often we also have family, homes, businesses here in the US we can't just up and leave. It also takes a certain degree of able-bodiness (and don't expect anywhere near the level of accommodation in other countries that you experience here in the US if you do have special needs which adds another layer of complication for some of us.)
Plus, we talk a lot but also a lot of us don't actually follow that talk with action if the action is difficult. Case in point, the number of people here- in one of the most liberal corners of the internet- who still have X profiles. We can't even leave Twitter! We're not leaving the US.
*Disclaimer- all about "we" pronouns are meant to be illustrative, and not an indication of my personal status nor is this a sweeping statement about every single human being in the US of whom a small % will always be the exception to the rule.

(1,019 posts)Past generations stepped up when called upon.
I have benefitted from growing up in this wonderful country, that pervious generations fought to protect. A country with many problems, but one with ideas worth fighting for.
It is our time to step up. Our turn to defend and fight for our country for future generations. A bleak future indeed is in store. But one with promise.
Can't blame anyone for wanting to leave, true patriotic citizens will stand and fight.
At 67 I'm not half the man I used to be. But one thing I have learned is nothing is improved by running away. But by facing the problem head on.
This old man isn't going anywhere.
I will gladly have your 6!
You are the people I appreciate Thanking me for my service. And thanking and respecting those 6 feet under that gave all for us. Not by running. But standing to keep what they died for.

(9,918 posts)Its extreme right wingers that are as hate filled as MAGA. And THEY do not want any refugees storming their borders and poisoning their blood. Especially as we are seen around the world the last few decades.
Imagine the campaign adds they will produce with caravans of Americans bringing their guns, lust for killing, and all the Gays and trans coming to take their jobs, drain their health care, and the Blacks coming to take your white women with immense manhood, the likes of which they have never seen.
I am not so sure with all the images THEIR right wingers could plaster everywhere, we would be so welcome anywhere.
Every country has a resource drain as we do and not so willing to invite more consumers of those.
So before running like Hawley, maybe ask if you are welcome by their right wing.
And maybe stop by Arlington and explain why their lives dont matter, the lives lost for country and democracy. At least thats what many thought they died for from wars after WW11.
Happy Veterans day yall. Spare me the Thank you for your service this weekend.
A vote would have said much more about gratitude of my service.
And running away does not help show the thanks..
