SNL Reflections

I’ve only watched about half of it thus far, but pretty disappointed in this week’s SNL. I know that guests are booked far in advance, but I certainly wish that in this week in particular, we had a host that didn’t so strongly reflect white guy bro culture, even if it’s just a surface impression. It feels a little tonedeaf. Regardless of what his personal politics might be.

The female cast has been almost invisible and unrepresented. Sounds like they need a few more women in the writer’s room.

What a stark contrast from Kate McKinnon in 2016, who reflected the pain that so many women were feeling.

Thus far in the episode, I feel unseen and unheard. Do better, SNL.

Edit: finished the whole episode, and my mouth is agape. In a week like this, of all weeks, they end with a sketch whose entire premise is “women aren’t funny.” Yeah let’s end on misogyny. That’s a real winner. 🤮🙄🤮🙄🤮

He's extremely self-aware and self-reflective.

More than most comedians, he addresses anger issues and toxic behaviors and how working to improve on male behaviors wired in by society and upbringing is something men should be doing.

He went on Joe Rogan and basically told him he was completely full of shit straight to his face.

That’s why I specifically stated “ Regardless of his personal politics.”
The vibe of the show has been very male centered. Not the feeling I wanted this week.
I’m expressing my own personal emotional response. I hope you can respect that and be sensitive to the way women are feeling.

If others disagree, so be it. I can only speak for myself.

That people didn't feel like they were in the mood for what was being offered.

Weekend Update was fun, tho. Michael Che's demoralized drinking was about the shape of it.

It was comforting, albeit cold comfort.
