I keep thinking about all of the narcissists, egos, and testosterone we have going on at the top. There is the supreme narc, Donald Trump, and the idiot dynasty of Don, Jr., et al. Then you have Elon Musk, who thinks he alone should populate the world, and has all the money in the world. J.D. Vance, protege of Peter Theil who espouses Curtis Yarvin and some type of New World Order. And lastly, RFK, Jr. the batshit crazy spawn of the Kennedy's who is convinced somehow he is entitled to his place in history because of his family.
What could go wrong here?

(28,576 posts)At least it will be entertaining and while they're fighting with each other, it will give them less time to hurt us.

(16,223 posts)Trumps like most sociopathic leaders in that he likes to pit his underlings against one another. Hopefully that fact will somewhat limit the damage in the next four years.

(31,042 posts)It really didn't matter who won the election wrt climate change.
That is going to proceed apace regardless.
However, the suffering will increase and the abililty to mitigate suffering
will decrease -- and this is sad beyond words.

(15,584 posts)You have to limit damage to the planet (and democratic institutions) as long as that is possible. Or it is just like a license to burn the place down and that is never okay.
You may not stop the damage if you try to but it will definitely accelerate it if people start thinking the planet is already fucked. No need to bother.

(31,042 posts)I like your wish for a certain determination to limit damage,
but what I'm more worried about is doing nothing to help
recovery efforts while the damage is still localized.

(15,584 posts)I got what you were saying.
It is just a reflex I have on hopelessness re climate change. I worry about it a lot myself but well we gotta strive against mounting odds :-/.

(16,223 posts)But just maybe the Republicans wont get their whole agenda accomplished. Or maybe they will, who knows? And yeah, climate change has us fucked either way.

(36,184 posts)And if he is offered something, I don't think he'd accept. How boring to sitting in meetings and your only job is kiss Chump's ass. Chump won't listen to anyone, so he does all the talking and everyone tells him how smart he is.
Bob - RFK Jr. - might be offered a position in the Cabinet but Chump will fire him within a few months. It would be a mistake to bring in Chump Jr., for a multitude of reasons, but that wouldn't stop Chump. He's already made so many hiring mistakes.
JD Vance is the guy everyone needs to curry favor with, because sooner or later he's going to Article 25 Chump's ass.
Nobody who ever worked for Chump before will want to come back, with the possible exception of Cory Lewandowsky. Apparently he can't hold down a job anywhere else.

Some will work together for a period of time.
I don't know which avenue is more dangerous.
I can only hope, I really think Elon who is the most evil person on the earth is my biggest hope, however I think Elon is to smart to ever get on Trumps bad side, but Elon more than anyone I think is going to influence this administration and it is mainly to help promote his white nationalism like he does on Twitter

(3,660 posts)That's an essential aspect of the fascist form of government. There will be no end of palace intrigues, coups, various nights of the long knives, factionalism, double-crosses, and other varieties of backbiting drama, while Trump selects the (always temporary) winners, and the other factions regroup and come up with some new plot. The news, of course, will eat this all up, as will many people.

It reminds me of that evangelical belief that after they get rid of the rest of us heathens and jews, they will live in peace for a thousand years.
These people would be backstabbing each other within10 minutes. Rigid, hateful, greedy people.
